Somewhat disappointing day given that we started on 200 for 1 and lost our last 6 wickets for about 80 - and that at home against last season's next to bottom side. Clearly going to be no overnight miracles. Still, scoring over 400 not something we often do and 3 batsmen made good scores.
It is good news but the current state of the team is really shocking. Never thought we would sink so low as losing by 400 runs to Derbyshire. Truly abysmal.
StokeFan - you say you are being measured and fair minded but essentially you reek of someone who thinks you have been robbed and your comments about us are dripping with faint praise ie we tore you apart but you won so that's all that matters. You did not tear us apart. You had only 3 really good chances all game, 2 of those at the death. In the second half we looked far more incisive around the box than you and actually got behind your defence which you failed to manage all game despite all your possession. I would have expected you to dominate possession when you have an extra man in midfield and against our reserve midfield in the first half. But you did very little with that possession in my view. And the second half, when we changed shape and got on what is nearly our first choice midfield the game was pretty even after the first few minutes.
Consensus on Talk Sport this morning is that QPR will finish the highest of the three promoted teams and we've not bought enough quality to do well.....
Shame we lost today but we gave a really good team a really good game. That plus winning at the likes of Hampshire and Essex, very good one day teams, gives us some hope. Getting hammered by a sh1te team like Glos was a shocker, though!
Have to say that hearing what Cobb says makes me feel not all is lost. We've produced some of the best players in English cricket history. We can be back up there with the right ambition.
It is 4 years since we won away in the Championship and now 27 games without a win home or away. No prospect of that getting any better once we lose our few half decent players during the winter. I can see us losing first class status if this goes on many more seasons.
Have a horrible feeling that Kent will coast home with 3 or 4 down, based on our efforts defending admittedly smaller fourth innings totals v Derbyshire and Gloucestershire. But so hope I'm wrong and we finally get a win. Either way, great to see us at least make a game of it.
Have also been following the site for a while and thought it was time to sign up. Been a fan since the early 80s and have kept the faith despite living away from Leicester since mid 90s. Now live in SW London. Can't get back for tonight's game so wondered if there were any other Foxiles down here who are planning to go to the Stag's Head in Fitzrovia to see the game today?
