  1. Just wanted to quickly say thank you to all that have replied, it humbles me to know there are people willing to take time out to respond to a stranger. I will update properly when I have more time, I just didn't want anyone to think I don't appreciate the support :)

  2. I've spoken to my GP and he has prescribed tablets. It's still early days with those though. My work can sack me because of the time I've had off over recent years. I took some time on the advice of my doctor when my dad died, and about 12 months ago I had a seizure in a car on work time, and although they wouldn't let me go back to work until I had a scan the enforced time off still counts against me. My partner doesn't understand how I feel, he takes it all as an affront to him, I just feel like, I can't even describe it. But I really do value you lot on here.

  3. This is going to be a ramble so I apologise now. I really need to talk to someone, and I feel like there's no one there. I've been signed off work, and they are supposed to be putting counselling into place, but I missed the first phone call they arranged because it was a weekend and I can't talk when my children are around. I think I'm going to lose my job because of the time off I've had, but work is probably one of the biggest factors in my depression, and I just can't face it. If I lose my job I'll lose my house, but even knowing that isn't a big enough motivator to get me to do anything about it. Most nights I'd just like to go to sleep and never wake up.

I just don't feel like me anymore, and it's not fair on my children, I don't think I've ever felt this low. I need to find a way out of this, but I don't know how

  4. After all my plans for the day in Manchester ended up spending the day in the hotel. It was cold, wet and windy and I'm a fair weather tourist. But I have made full use of the pool and spa, watched a film and made an early start on the wine :). Oh and going to Hawksmoor for dinner tonight after the recommendations in another thread.

The parents dropping their kids off will be on their way to work themselves. If they walk their kids to school and then have to walk back home to the car they'll be late for work.

This. It's about a 20 minute walk to school for me, and I have to drive past it to get to work. If I walked back to get the car I'd be late. Same obviously on the way home, pointless driving past at the time my daughter is coming out of school.

  6. We've got a night in London in December before we get the Eurostar the next morning. We've booked a Premier Inn at King's Cross for about £70, I've got a voucher for 2 for 1 on the London eye, and I've found an Agatha Christie performance on the South Bank for a tenner each. It's in the chambers of County Hall, a courtroom drama, and we're really looking forward to it.

So a thread, which has the sole purpose to instigate debate, is not the place for debate? What's the point of posting opinions, biases and prejudices if these cannot be challenged?

I'm just trying to understand what it is you're saying and seeking clarification.

Interesting that you think, in the hypothetical case of women contributing more money to tennis, that they should not be remunerated accordingly.

I meant I don't think this thread is the right place to debate gender equality, I imagine this was meant to be taken fairly light heartedly.

I don't have any deep feelings about it, but I just know that as a woman I don't feel equal to men in every aspect of life  but nor do I expect to. However I don't view it as a negative thing. People should be judged on their own individual merits and capabilities, not because of their gender.

Not really a great example. Professional sport is of questionably ethical value already. Either way, you'd expect money to be split according their respective market values, i.e. if more people watch women's tennis and thus bring in more TV money, then wouldn't it be fair if they earned more than men and vice versa?

I did say it was a loose example :) This thread isn't really the place for a debate, and after all it was supposed to be an unpopular opinion ;) But the answer to your question is no.

Having witnessed Lewis, Hammond, De Vries and co. I will never label any of the current generation as 'awful'. They're better than 80-90 % of the players we've had over the past 15 years.

And your first point, do you think people in general believe they're equal? I understand equality to be the idealism of having the same rights and being treated with the same base respect.

I'm curious, what do you mean they shouldn't 'expect to be treated the same as men'? Care to give an example?

Women obviously have different strengths and weaknesses to men, and as such should be treated differently. A very loose example is that women now receive the same prize money in tennis, but only play 3 sets to the men's 5. If I only went to work for 3 fifths of the time as my male colleagues I wouldn't expect to be paid the same.

  10. Recently noticed that some of the lacquer on my 5 year old Alfa has come off, just on one of the front wings. Presumably I need to do something about it or the car will start to rust? Is it normal for paint to degrade like this so quickly?

Now I just need Matt to post British employment figures and wage growth and Webbo to ask if I'm saying I should be given free money and I'll have a full house of FT conservatives deliberately missing the point or failing to show any empathy.

I'm sorry but I laughed more than I should have at this. I wish you the best of luck, sounds like you need to do what's best for you rather than everyone else though....
