I had managed to wipe Mark Ealham from my memory bank…Now getting flashbacks to Bill Athey, whose test average was 22.97. He played over the same period as Chris Tavaré, and appears to have been selected as a marginally less glacial bat, when something a little more swashbuckling than Tavaré was called for…..Those concerned with Bazball should have seen Tavball. Paint dried quicker. -

Kent are making a very solid start. But I can't remember the last time I watched the Foxes with such a sense of serenity. It feels very strange.
-
I did say "if". But I feel bad that I may have jinxed poor Tom with my overly optimistic tone.
-
Great effort - declare at lunch if we've not lost the last wicket to get started on Kent's first innings? With the weather forecast, not sure if it's worth giving up the time to get fifty or so more (but Scriven should have got his ton by then if he's going to).

Came on here first, read the comments, assumed we were struggling to get 250. Fled to BBC scorecard aaaand breathe!

If Brook chose to bowl pies, and Stokes put him on for that reason, then shame on them. If Carse, Archer, Woakes and Stokes were shattered, tough. They should have been ready to go the whole day if need be, and India is under no obligation to let them go away and put their feet up if they're feeling tired on day 5. The point of a test match is not to have it arranged as an exhibition show to suit England. A ton in a test match is special. If England chose to devalue it when they're sulking that they've not managed to get the wickets to make it a more competitive ending, again, that's on them. I bet few of those fans moaning would have whinged if the boot was on the other foot if it meant hanging around to see a Joe Root century, or Stokes, for that matter. They be happy to boast that they were there and they saw the great Stokes/Root etc get a ton on their cricket day out. And that's what sticks in my throat with any criticism of India. They shouldn't have to justify batting on. Stokes' aim of looking magnanimous in offering to shake hands on a draw was a nonsense. It was only because they were desperate to get off the field, but I doubt he'd have had the slightest problem if the roles had been reversed and if he thought England staying on would knacker India's bowlers and hamper their recovery for the next test and secure an advantage. And if he'd done that and made them bowl for most of the afternoon and tired them out still further they'd be enough applauding the tactic for helping with the next test. -
Sweet Fairy Liquid, we've done it. The amount of mental strength and resilience they have. Just astonishing.
-
Right. There's some washing up that needs to be done. I can't watch this.
-
Apparently no nation has ever had to go to three extra time games in an tournament before, and I fear it's beginning to tell on England.
-
Bonmati is so good it's actively annoying!
-
Felt like an "aggregate yellow" - like points on your driving licence. Bronze has finally got to 12 penalty points so here's your card!
-
That is one hell of a header!

Really don't get all the poison directed at James. I feel sorry for her but I'm glad she's gone off. No excuses or blaming her for the defeat now. After the first 10 or so minutes England have been flat and wasteful of their chances; it's not been down to James dragging them all down and stopping them from playing.
-
James is in fact having to track back and has done more defending than she should. Twice she's snuffed out an attack and ushered the ball out of play down the left side.

Hello Lugs! Then you're not alone! Think I heard it on the radio as I dived for match snackerels before the shops shut. And it's a valid point, but it felt like teams targeted Carter because of her pace and some questionable passes under pressure, and I just felt Morgan was steadier. Who knows, she may score the winner as everyone's up in the 94th minute for a corner.
-
And some trophies to put in it! Not optimistic tonight, but hoping that makes for a less stressful watch. Someone (not here) pointed out that Spain don't play like France or Sweden (!) so Carter will be fine but Spain can still be quick down the wings when they want and I'm fearful that Carter will left adrift again. Really hope not.

Thanks, didn't know that as he batted and bowled on, bless him! Does that make it odder they didn't try someone new as you could take the pressure off them (actually, off everyone) by making it clear it was just to fill in because Bashir was injured? -

I get the impression that Bashir wasn't doing well enough - whether they just dropped him or whether, to give them credit, they decided he needed some protection, I don't know. But then they cast around and came up with Dawson on the usual negative selection basis of the "safe pair of hands" of any other bowlers they could think of. I can see why they did it, but surely it's a very stop-gap decision? I would rather they tried out whoever they think they make take Down Under, and I'll be perplexed if that's Dawson. Though probably not surprised... -
I know I can be a right little black rain cloud, but some of the earlier doom merchants on here this morning make me look like Sid the Happy Sunbeam. Did people really think that the fact they weren't a least three down by lunch, or that our score of 398, even including one hell of a batting collapse by the mid/tail enders, had us heading for defeat?
-
I take it all back. Apparently Agyemang does only need six or so minutes. The most composed player in the box.
-
What does she expect Agyemang and Beever-Jones to do with less than 6 minutes to go plus a bit of time added on?
-
We could keep putting in cross for another 45 minutes, and we still don’t look like we’re going to get it in their goal. Hope this is a brilliant reverse jinx but it just doesn’t look like our night. As Sol’s said, it’s not falling for us.
-
Kelly and Agyemang can’t keep producing miracles with only a few minutes to go. No one looks like scoring. They’ve got less than 20 minutes now.
-
Wow. It's not often the goalie gets player of the match but if Berger doesn't get it there's been a gross miscarriage of justice!!
