Songs that sum up the season so far..

King Midas in Reverse. -
It's been such a flat season right from the start. We've had the odd good result here and there, but never really looked like getting our act together long term. Clean sheets are a thing of the past now - going 20 minutes without conceding is about our limit at the moment. It's been far more wretched than we could ever have imagined and a horrible way to end a nine year top flight spell.
-
At least we kept it to a two goal margin, but it was mostly pretty farcical.

Having managed to get a late ticket, I'm actually quite looking forward to this one. Like many fans, I've been getting very apathetic over Rodgers' last two seasons, but now there feels like something of the old Leicester back again. Yes, it's far from perfect play at the moment and the club is in a bit of a mess heading for a difficult summer, but a relegation fight game under the lights is a lot more appealing than bumbling to the end of the season in a safe spot like we did last year. Obviously I would never have chosen this position, but we might as well make the most of the required late season adrenaline now it's here!

I agree. The money has become ridiculous in the game. Yes, footballers have short careers and need to be paid reasonably well, but it's just seemed to breed complacency with most of our players. They draw weekly pay packets that are often at least three times most of the fans' yearly salaries for producing this arrogant, lifeless dross every week. Our previous relegation seasons have at least been reasonably entertaining at times, but this has been downright awful from the first game and money is largely to blame.

After 30 games, do you think we are going down?

Aston Villa post match - 2-1 loss

We don't know whether to stick or twist. We may as well twist as we've barely hung on for a draw for two whole seasons now. I'd rather lose every game 6-3 until the end of the season than this. At least that would be a bit more excitement and 27 more goals to send us down with a bang! -
Brendan Rodgers appreciation thread

I know exactly what you mean. For the first two and a third seasons, he did a not dissimilar job to the legendary Martin O'Neill who won us promotion, the league cup and had two very good Premier League seasons that could easily have been even better. The big difference was that O'Neill continued his success and popularity for a further two seasons whereas Rodgers wobbled noticeably last season and has fallen off a cliff this time around. I'm as pleased as anyone that he's gone now, but it's a shame that his earlier achievements have been so badly tarnished. -
Yes exactly. You just feel everything is pointless the moment. Even if there are some good saves and good blocks or heaven forbid we actually score a goal, you always think we're going to lose in the final reckoning anyway.

This is beyond pathetic. What on earth do you say? -
"It's a difficult time for him at the moment. He's looking failure in the face. I've looked failure in the face. It's not a pretty sight, but as my father used to say - only a fool doesn't look where he's going." (Marion and Geoff)

That draw at Brentford has left it strangely hanging now. Leicester did look a bit better, but that's not saying too much with what went before. The next three virtually decide the season - three wins we'll survive, three losses we'll go down, but if we get three draws we'll be back in this strange limbo again. I don't think I've ever known a weirder season than this one.

Brentford 1-1 LCFC - Post Match Thread
Thequickbrownfox replied to StanSP's topic in Leicester City Forum
The two week break has come at a good time. As much as possible we need to forget this season up until now and just treat it as an 11 game salvage job. Yesterday did give me a bit of hope. Brendan finally changed the goalkeeper, Faes was thankfully suspended and we did at least have a decent second half. With it being so tight at the bottom I think all the teams down there might be troubled by the stick or twist mentality. If you're at 1-1 with 10 minutes to go, do you risk going for all three points or settle for one? Normally you would say a point is almost useless in a relegation battle, but with so many teams involved draws could be very precious. -
What would you call your book?

The Long Delayed Pay Off - How Changing the Way We Play Changes Everything -
Exactly. Even if we just scrape out of it somehow, I think we'll all just shrug our shoulders and say "At least we don't have to watch this again until August."

The only thing I can compare this shower to is the bizarre Eighties game show 3-2-1. In the show, there were a variety of sketches after which one of the performers would bring in a clue and a rhyme which supposedly told you what that particular prize was. The contestants had to try and reject the clue that was the booby prize of Dusty Bin and then they would win something reasonably good. The clues were famous for their convoluted and awkward solving by Ted Rogers. A clue today would go something like this; Ok, so now you've decided to reject the riding crop and the clue was; He's crowned as the expenses rise In the time of clear vision, thrice more Wilde's empty dish was cruel to those Approaching the exit door Let's have a look. He's crowned as the expenses rise - that would normally refer to a king or queen and expenses are rising all over these days, but it's probably housing, electricity or food. Food could of course link with the line about Wilde's empty dish. Now Wilde was famously in Reading gaol on meagre rations, though he also made a famous quote on cruelty about fox hunting being "the unspeakable in pursuit of the uneatable." Now let's look at the second line - in the time of clear vision. The clearest vision possible is 20/20, which suggests we're looking for a year. Thrice more couldn't be 60/60, so we must be adding three to give 2023. Link that back to the line about foxes which is the nickname of Leicester City football club. That means we must be talking about a king and the costs of electricity or power giving the King Power stadium. Leicester were consigned to the dustbin of relegation in 2023, so you've done it, you've rejected Dusty Bin!"

The 3-1 defeat to Arsenal on 28th February 2021. The last third of our season then went into freefall with some dreadful performances and we never really recovered from the disappointment. Last season was a curious choppy one (though it almost seems half decent now) and this season has been utterly abysmal. Our nine season run in the Premier League has been full of a lot of great memories, but signing off with what will surely be a very anaemic and soulless relegation is a huge anticlimax.
