Anyone seen "Heretic" yet? I was never a big Hugh Grant fan, but he's really excellent as the sinister intellectual Mr. Reed.

100 Goals at The King Power
Thequickbrownfox replied to Thequickbrownfox's topic in Leicester City Forum
Nearly there. Just the two now League One teams. The first was a dramatic late equaliser way back in 2012 and the other was against a team that were a Premier League side not so long ago after coming up through the play-offs. -

Sorry - I meant that the teams in question are in those particular leagues this season. -

Yes, just one at the King Power. He does indeed have three in total. -
100 Goals at The King Power
Thequickbrownfox replied to Thequickbrownfox's topic in Leicester City Forum
That's pretty impressive. Just missing five - this season one is in the Premier League, two in the Championship and two in League One. -
Vardy's next home goal will be his 100th at the King Power! He's scored against 38 teams in total from Newport to Atletico Madrid. Surprisingly just the one hat trick - though it was against Man City.

Football in it's current version
Thequickbrownfox replied to foxfanazer's topic in Leicester City Forum
Excellent thread. I would completely agree that the magic is lacking nowadays. I think saturation is a big part of it. When only one English team went into the Champions League, it was always disappointing when they were knocked out - now there isn't the same instant jeopardy. Also there's so much information available to us now, which is often good, but it removes a lot of the mystical element. Don't get me wrong - I really enjoy the high quality Leicester podcasts that we have now, but it's much like someone was saying about Hollywood - in the old days very little was known about it, so the stars had an allure and mystique and it seemed like a magical fairy tale land, whereas nowadays you can find out virtually everything about the making of a film. I think Leicester's return to the Championship was a bit of an eye opener for many. We thought we would at least be returning to the rough and tumble football of our old Championship days, but that didn't really seem to happen. Obviously everything evolves over time and change is inevitable, but when things don't seem to change for the better and watching football becomes a dull experience, then that's a disappointing development for everyone. -
Some of the scorers of our first league goal of the season over the last twenty years are quite surprising. There are some clues to each scorer below. 04/05 - Best known for a spectacular volley in the 2003/04 season. 05/06 - Top scorer for the Foxes in 2004/05. Played for Republic of Ireland at 2002 World Cup. 06/07 - Popular Australian centre back. Later played for Leeds. 07/08 - Best known for scoring a hat trick for Blackpool in the play off semi finals. 08/09 - The first of 32 goals in all competitions this season for this striker. 09/10 - Had a somewhat stop start career overall, also playing for Rangers and Derby amongst others. 10/11 - Long serving, unassuming Foxes legend. 11/12 - Defender who played just one season for Leicester. Effectively replaced by Ritchie De Laet. 12/13 - Legendary powerful Foxes defender. 13/14 - Versatile midfielder, who has recently retired. 14/15 - An up and down striker probably best remembered for a vital late equaliser in the title run in. 15/16 - Arguably our best ever player. 16/17 - PFA players' player of the year in the title winning season. 17/18 - Hardworking, though not hugely prolific striker. 18/19 - The goat. 19/20 - Long serving Nigerian midfielder. 20/21 - Almost scored a classic own goal in the relegation season. 21/22 - The goat again. 22/23 - One of our best performers over this poor season. Also scored against Wolves. 23/24 - Popular academy player who enjoyed a fine season.

Concerns about the direction of the club
Thequickbrownfox replied to Lambert09's topic in Leicester City Forum
I fear that this season could be the old Mighty Boosh mantra - "Elements of the past and the future combining to make something not quite as good as either." -
200 in total. He's on 190 at the moment.

Would love him to reach the magic 200 goals for us. Arthur Rowley was the last player to do this scoring in a 3-1 defeat away to Bury on 10th March 1956.

Still a Record Breaking Season?
Thequickbrownfox replied to fazzyfox's topic in Leicester City Forum
We've now done the double over 12 teams. That's more than in 2013/14. Not sure if it's an all time record though. -
The Southampton game last Tuesday was one of the best and most joyous games I've ever been to. I think the only comparable ones would be Liverpool and West Ham in the title winning season and Drinkwater's last minute thunderbolt against Watford back in 2014. What are some of your best home games over the years?

Preston (A) turn it blue and white

Ten years (and a week) ago today. Let’s hope for a repeat tonight! Bolton 0 – 1 Leicester (Dyer 62) April 22nd 2014 Schmeichel, De Laet, Konchesky, James, Wasilewski, Morgan, Mahrez (Dyer), Drinkwater, Nugent, King (Wood), Knockaert (Hammond.) -
So where do you rank this promotion?
Thequickbrownfox replied to Koke's topic in Leicester City Forum
THE FIVE PREMIER LEAGUE PROMOTIONS It's thirty years now since Leicester won the play-off final of 1994 to finally return to the top flight after seven seasons away. Football has changed massively since then, but the Championship remains an exciting and unpredictable league, if sometimes a little low on quality. So how does this promotion rank alongside the other four? 1993/94 - After knocking on the door for the previous two seasons Leicester finally sealed promotion in the play-off final. Strangely this had probably been the shakiest of the three seasons with only 2 wins in our last 12 in the league, but we perked up for the play-offs and beat Tranmere and Derby in what was amazingly our first ever win at Wembley to seal promotion. Unfortunately the squad wasn't strong enough for the Premier League and we were soon back for another promotion tilt. 1995/96 - Leicester had such a good start and finish to the season that it's easy to forget how dismal the mid section was. Martin O'Neill replaced Mark McGhee as manager in December, but his new ways were not instantly successful and after a wretched run of just 4 wins in 22 there was the infamous fan protest against O'Neill after a 2-0 home defeat to Sheffield United on 30th March 1996. That seemed to bring us to life and a late season burst of form saw us squeak into the play-offs with a Muzzy Izzet goal on the last day. After which a win over Stoke set us up for Claridge's legendary late winner against Palace at Wembley. This began O'Neill's highly successful four season spell in the Premier League with Leicester always hovering around 8th and winning two League cups to boot. 2002/03 - This is very much the forgotten promotion, though its importance is undeniable. Leicester were in administration at the time and not going up could have had very serious consequences. Though they were often dominant in games and went up comfortably in second place, the season was not without controversy. In those more lax days, Leicester suffered no points deduction and were allowed to keep all their best players after relegation the previous year. This was rightly questioned in several quarters and tighter rules were soon brought in. The Foxes had most definitely dodged a bullet on this one and while we only had one subsequent season in the Premier League, the cash injection was a life saver. 2013/14 - It's only in hindsight that everyone realised quite how good this team was. Many of the major players in the miracle season of 2015/16 were already in place - Vardy, Mahrez, Schmeichel, Drinkwater and Morgan and with only one defeat in our last 27 matches promotion was sealed with six games to spare. The next three seasons were quite remarkable as the Foxes did the great escape, won the Premier League and reached the quarter finals of the Champions League all on a relatively low budget by modern standards. 2023/24 - After a miserable relegation the previous season and a huge turnover of players Leicester still had a strong squad, but despite good results in the first half of the season Maresca's slow, possession based tactics weren't universally loved amongst Foxes fans. Cracks started to show in the second half of the season and some poor results threatened to push us into the play-offs. Plus Leicester were charged with overspending and would have had a transfer embargo placed on them had they remained in the Championship. Thus promotion became even more vital and thankfully a couple of good games plus the poor form of our promotion rivals finally got us over the line with two games to spare. Leicester will still have to sell some players to balance the books and may well face a points deduction in the Premier League, but the alternative would have been much worse. It's been a curious season, but it certainly feels a lot better than this time last year when we surrendered our Premier League place rather too tamely for many people's liking. -
There was one slight flaw in the plan. It was bollocks. (Blackadder Goes Forth)

Millwall (A) - Post match 1-0

Was there a minute's silence at the game last night? No, just the usual hour and a half. (Frank Skinner) -
We definitely need to get Inspector Grim to do the team talks. It's how most of us are feeling at the moment!

This was pretty much the team that won the Championship ten years ago - K Schmeichel, R de Laet, M Wasilewski, W Morgan (c), P Konchesky, D Drinkwater, M James, R Mahrez, A King, A Knockaert, J Vardy - Subs; D Hammond, L Dyer, C Wood, D Nugent. I know football has changed a lot since then, but I'd still back this team a lot more than the current one to finish in the top two from here.

Bristol City 1 - 0 LCFC Post Match Thread
Thequickbrownfox replied to KingsX's topic in Leicester City Forum
9 years after the Great Escape began on the Easter weekend, Leicester continue the Great Decline. As many others have said, this would arguably be the worst and most damaging collapse in our history given our financial state and the FFP problems. I was quite looking forward to going to the King Power on Monday. Now I might as well just watch a few Carry On films. At least that's enjoyable farce! -
