Why must it be one of those 2?
-
Seriously, there is no way with that break Wes will be back this year. Seems like at least one compound fracture and maybe dislocation which will take at least as long as an ACL injury. I would be happy to see him back any time this season, but that could be optimistic.
-
I am not sure if this speculation has any fact in in, but this would be a great get if it has some truth to it.
-
That break seems so bad could be much longer than 6 months to be back in game shape.
-
Absolutely correct. Why can't it happen with Benkovic. It was BR who loved playing him when in loan at Celtic. Why can't he get that out of him here . Kelichi is the perfect example of a player turnaround. This game and our need is the perfect time to get him to find that form.
-
It is the community shield not a PL game. What do we lose giving the guy we own a chance to play. Yes it would be nice to win the shield but i don't think Benkovic would be the sole reason that we lose. Maybe he shows what he is capable off.
-
Absolutely. They are in big financial trouble . This is the sort of player i would expect us to be in for.
-
Makes sense. Why not put him in and see what he can do against the best opposition possible without it costing the team. The extra spot in our defense should be his to try and save for himself. We have a few years of investment in him, let's see if it was worth it.

The centre-back failed to impress in just 13 appearances and Liverpool instead turned their attention to Ibrahima Konate, who signed from RB Leipzig earlier this summer. A wealth of clubs have been linked with Kabak, 21, since but a move has failed to get off the ground. Therefore, Schalke could be forced into terminating his contract as they struggle to pay his wages. The German giants were relegated to the 2. Bundesliga last season and journalist Constantin Eckner has claimed on the Blood Red Club podcast that drastic measures may have to be taken. Kabak's contract runs to 2024 and SunSport revealed in May that he was demanding a whopping £80,000 weekly salary to move back to the Premier League. Leicester have been strongly linked with the defender, who remained on the bench for Turkey's short Euro 2020 campaign.

James Justin to come back in a few months as well.

I am only suggesting Phillips as a loan option to cover for the year that Wes is out. He will be a quality (as other may be) short term cover. we as I have said probably need greater depth in central defense. Which may require more than one defender to come in. 1 on loan and 1 maybe permanent. If we wanted Kabak as has been reported we would have made an offer, but as has been said before we didn't due to wages being an issue. this is not a discussion of Phillips is better than Kabak, but what we need and can afford. Are you saying Phillips is not good enough to Cover for Wes?
-
Your point is? I have made my point very clear.
-
Do you really think he would of played if he was not PL quality. I know they had major defensive issues but he was picked, and played well. My point here is he could be a cheaper and short term option. Kabak had seemed to go off our radar. This not a slight on Kabak, but you have not said the same about Phillips playing for Liverpool. if his name were mentioned by the club or these pundits around, what would you say?
-
He went on to make nine appearances in the Premier League as the Reds turned their season around to clinch a third-placed finish, though he missed the final five games due to fitness issues of his own. He was available for the rest of his loan period and played 60% less than Phillips as I said,
-
He was back and available and still could not unseat Phillips. Have a look. again I say , I have no issue with Kabak as a quality player, but with his wages being a permanent player to the squad to replace Wes for a year is what I am referring to as the issue. All i am suggesting there is a lower cost option without losing quality to cover for Wes. Now needing more depth in Central Defense I also agree with. Also we didn't continue our pursuit of Kabak a month back and wages were mentioned as the reason. We may go ack in for him ,but would not surprise we have moved on to other targets. especially now.
-
really? that is over 60% more games than Kabak.
-
Twitter referring to some fans saying that right? Not the club. Didn't think the fans determine player contracts and transfers. Show me where Liverpool FC say they are trying to sell Phillips.
-
The issue here is do we loan a guy to cover for Wes as well as buy someone for depth?
-
The same argument you could make for Dewsbury- Hall? Now look at him. From what I have been told Liverpool are not trying to sell Phillips.
-
If Grelish is worth 100mil, what is unrealistic for us to expect 70-80 mil for Maddison? I really think the Grelish sale to Man City makes it almost impossible for Arsenal to pay for Madders as it sets the benchmark for young talented English midfielders. How much is Mount and Foden worth? I know they are probably slightly better than Maddison, but not 50 mil better.
-
Yep. There is a reason for that.
-
Ask Liverpool fans and they will tell you Phillips is a future starter for them, but with the big boys back from injury he won't get the playing time. I have no issue with Kabak, especially being Soyoncu's national team mate. But it is claimed we didn't go forward with the deal due to his on going cost. Let's wait and see what the club spends either in fees or wages. I don't think we will have to wait long to find out.

Phillips was preferred to Kabak at Liverpool.
