  1. Oh, it's a real thing!?! I genuinely thought it was a joke that there was a Fifa peace prize made for Trump! That's hilarious and insane at the same time.
  2. Unless you need a crime number for an insurance claim there is little point reporting crime like vandalism/theft etc. these days as nothing is done about it. So it makes sense that people don't bother.
  3. I thought it was a pretty balanced article with some good points, but I guess you are going to get different outtakes on articles depending on if you're left, centre, right etc.
  4. You didn't read it, did you?
  5. How was that your takeaway from the article?
  6. Wish I'd read this comment before spending 10 minutes thinking I had dementia or something. What the hell is this map?!
  7. Immigration is mentioned here as a reason: https://www.essex.ac.uk/research/showcase/why-britain-really-voted-to-leave-the-european-union The collapse of power in the Middle East The series of protests, demonstrations, riots, coups and civil wars that began in 2010 across the Middle East and North Africa and have become known as the Arab Spring, created new waves of immigration into Europe. Many voters concluded that not only had successive UK governments mishandled this issue but so had the European Commission. If we assume that is correct based on the data they used (and I'd say anecdotally that tallies with people I spoke to around then), they wanted less immigration from the ME and NA. Since 2020, however, migration did not go down, it went sharply up, with the bulk being non-EU citizens - so I don't think it's reasonable to assert that people who may have voted for that reason (as opposed to other reasons such as trading, bureaucratic reasons etc.) were listened to.

I can’t stand wood burners. When next door puts theirs on, you can smell it so strongly even with all the windows closed. It can’t be doing anyone’s lungs any good.
  9. I can’t give you a rational reason as to why we left the single market and customs union. You’d have to ask a Brexiteer, I was a hard remainer.
  10. I agree with you on that. We were talking about immigration and policy though, not leaving the EU.
  11. Sure about that? I didn’t just pluck them out of the air.
  12. Loads, Germany, France, Italy, Sweden, Netherlands, Denmark, Australia, USA…
  13. If you genuinely think that’s the reality then I am starting understand the left’s view on this much more.
  14. Yes, sadly it can. When people’s preferences are ignored and erased and they are told they are racist for expressing any concern about that, it can be radicalising.
  15. Preference, not superiority or supremacy.
  16. I think the issue of immigration is about culture, not race, for most people.
  17. The MoJ Study in 2007 did show a pattern of racism in juror verdicts https://www.theguardian.com/uk/2007/jun/13/ukcrime.race
  18. Not keen on the open racism
  19. Yup, for milder cases it’s pragmatic. If we had the resources I’d prefer jury each time but clearly we don’t. It’s not going to be temporary though, we won’t go back as this is cheaper. We also have a bigger problem with struggling to send people to jail because there isn’t enough space.

Well gas is around 5.4p/KwH and Electric around 25p/KwH, electric heaters are 100% efficient and gas with a modern boiler around 92%. So, for the same radiators, you're looking at 25 / (5.4/0.92) = around 4.25 times more expensive.
  21. How about “government of a different political leaning to @leicsmac“? Calling the US government facist well highlights that the majority of people who use the word facist don’t have a clue what it means.
  22. When you copy and paste, best to paste as plain text as the different font and colour is a bit of a giveaway
  23. 100%. Labour were always going to be screwed because the Tories spent the best part of a decade and a half screwing up the economy and leeching as much money to their mates as possible. There was an argument that lockdowns exacerbated this, which is probably fair, but then every country had to deal with this. There is no way that can be undone in months or years.
  24. Can you define what a fascist is, off the top of your head?
  25. But the people being called facists and Nazis aren’t facists and Nazis, are they. It’s just an attempt at slinging insults and it’s doing no good for anyone.
