Willis Posted 1 September 2005 Posted 1 September 2005 With the dust settling on the transfer window and in relation to topics concerning ticket prices, what are people's thoughts on this article: http://football.guardian.co.uk/comment/sto...1551650,00.html
Austin Posted 1 September 2005 Posted 1 September 2005 i read it a while back quite frankly the guys a wanka! Football is a religion! care to join me in a song of praise for it... Shit on shit on shit on the forest tonight!
Guest Posted 1 September 2005 Posted 1 September 2005 I thought it was a good article. Football has sold its soul to the corporate devil, but where were the fans when it did so? Signing up for Murdoch TV, that's where! The only way to change the game for the better is the only thing the fans can't bring themselves to do; stop going altogether. Such is the irony.
BenFilbert Posted 1 September 2005 Posted 1 September 2005 I started to read it and got rather bored. All i need to know, is that i enjoy football and Leicester City.
Darth Fox Posted 1 September 2005 Posted 1 September 2005 I agree to a certain extent, empty seats and u can hear a pigeon fart it's so quiet at certain grounds. In fact during the Newcastle vs Manure match pigeons were on the in the Manure 18 yard box more than the Newcastle forwards.
MC Prussian Posted 1 September 2005 Posted 1 September 2005 There is already a thread about that article
CasinoGee Posted 1 September 2005 Posted 1 September 2005 You have to be a bit of a fvcktard not to realise that football's going down the pan and without intervention of the fan's it wil continue to do so. The people that really need to read the article are the ones that are too stupid to get all the way through it. BLARMY, you know nothing. The guy makes a very important point.
john_lcfc Posted 1 September 2005 Posted 1 September 2005 football fans are loyal and great in my opinion exept leeds wolves forest derby cov villa and stoke ones
Thracian Posted 1 September 2005 Posted 1 September 2005 It's funny I knew the word Thatcherite would be in there. No mention that it is the f.....g Labour Party that's been selling all the playing fields, No mention that it's under a Labour Government that ground capacity's have been cut (knocking seven shades out of the atmosphere) and under a Labour Government that we have to be seated now (knocking seven shades out of the atmosphere). I'm not even saying they are wrong in these and every other sportingly-restrictive attitude they've taken (the arguments are too complex to bother with on this thread), it's just that the Guardianistas slant is so predictably biased and selective as to be barely worth consideration. Hence having read the diatribe weeks ago I didn't bother bringing it up. Who's interested in a Guardianistas view anyway, I'd ask. There was the odd point might be worth examining but most of it was garbage and with so many undeveloped generalisations that the whole thing was hollow.
Willis Posted 1 September 2005 Author Posted 1 September 2005 The article would never appear in The Times or The Sun though - Murdoch would do his nut. But I liked the article independent of the fact that I'm a liberal, Guardian reading, sandal wearer...
CasinoGee Posted 1 September 2005 Posted 1 September 2005 Thatcher started selling off playing fields long before Blair. Thatcher was the one that treated all football fans like hooligans, it was someone from the Thatcher end of things that led to Luton not admitting away fans for years. Sure Labour have been pretty sh|t, but the Tory cvnts started it.
Guest Posted 1 September 2005 Posted 1 September 2005 The Taylor Report came out before Labour came into power.
CasinoGee Posted 1 September 2005 Posted 1 September 2005 Exactly Lisa, just another silly Tory trying to make out that Thatcher is blameless and it's all Labour's fault. Even when it all started before Labour.

Northants Fox Posted 1 September 2005 Posted 1 September 2005 dick and dom would be proud of that toilet humour Toilet humour my favourate
Thracian Posted 2 September 2005 Posted 2 September 2005 Exactly Lisa, just another silly Tory trying to make out that Thatcher is blameless and it's all Labour's fault. Even when it all started before Labour. Well my conscience is clear cos I haven't voted for anyone more than once in the last 20 years but I bet you voted for Grin-and-Blair-it of the Forked Tongue and the probably illegal and utterly disastrous war. So who the hell are you suggesting is silly?. How many innocent killings do you want on your conscience? My point was not the defence of Mrs Thatcher (like Lise I believe most politicians are shit where sport is concerned) but that politicising the article only served to devalue it
lush Posted 2 September 2005 Posted 2 September 2005 I thought it was a good article. Football has sold its soul to the corporate devil, but where were the fans when it did so? Signing up for Murdoch TV, that's where! Not me, im not an idiot football fan. The article has already been discussed. I argued that it was a marxist rebel slag, against white working class hetrosexual people who like football, because the guardian dont. You see, any chance those fascists at the guardian can get, to slag the mainly right wing football supporter, the better they feel. If after reading it, you feel they make sense, then your an idiot football fan. If on the other hand, you feel your hard earned is used to entertain you, then your not an idiot football fan, and the fascist guardian newspaper magazine talks Rollox!!

Have you read the whole article? No.
lush Posted 3 September 2005 Posted 3 September 2005 You're a grade A twat. Have you read the whole article? No. Have you recieved a warning from mr c, for your abusive behaviour? I read about 50 words (pushed to do so by swissfox aka kenlcfc), i was exceptionally appauled to read whats considered a "serious" newspaper calling all football fans idiots. I sincerely hope you dont agree with them, that your an idiot football fan, that would be so sad. The title represents the article, think about that in future?
CasinoGee Posted 3 September 2005 Posted 3 September 2005 AHHHHHH! The title represents a valid point of view that some people who aren't football fans might hold. I'll give you ae quote since you have the attention span of a 2 year old. "But it has become an increasingly ugly mix of Thatcherite greed and Gradgrindian inequality. It needs to be taken down a peg - and supporters are the best ones to do it." The article is saying that due to loyalty and the fear of not being called a real fan by other fans, people turn up week in week out for ridiculous prices (that's pretty silly from a certain angle). They pay £40 for a shirt that they'll replace in a years time. Loads of things like that.

Whatever it is, is NOT for the guardian to decide. I personally think they charge way over the top for their paper, but its a free country, and they are allowed to charge extortionate prices. If people find it acceptable, whats wrong with that. The quote you gave expresses fascism, i did tell you so... I understand what you say, but you have a choice, a FAIR choice. NO ONE puts a gun to your head, and says you must fork out £40 for a shirt, if its too dear, DONT BUY IT!! The guardian have never been a what we call, genuine football fan, and they just wana put down the majority who are right wing politically. Every person/organisation/political party and newspaper has an agenda, the guardian are NO different. If you agree with their article, then you are a self confessed idiot football fan.
MC Prussian Posted 4 September 2005 Posted 4 September 2005 Have you recieved a warning from mr c, for your abusive behaviour? I sincerely hope you dont agree with them, that your an idiot football fan, that would be so sad. The title represents the article, think about that in future? HAHAHA!!! GOTCHA!!! LIAR!! LIAR!! LIAR!!! I never pushed you to read that article. You just generally declined several offers to read it completely and thoroughly. Again a failed attempt of yours to evade your own guilt. Do you have Alzheimer's Disease? Me and Ken are two completely different persons, living on two different continents. HAVE A LAFF!
lush Posted 4 September 2005 Posted 4 September 2005 I never pushed you to read that article. So you dont remember me saying ok i`ll read it, after you kept going orn and orn and orn at me to do so? Alzheimer's did you say Its the last time i take your advice lightly, it bored me to tears, and i had nightmares from it, still gets to me now, ooh you have a lot to answer for I sincerley hope you and ken are different people, its a possible banning offence.
MC Prussian Posted 4 September 2005 Posted 4 September 2005 Just watch out for my manifesto against you. Coming up tomorrow. Monday, September 5th, 2005. The day you'll never forget. But hey, you asked for it.
