NotTheMarketLeader Posted 25 September 2015 Posted 25 September 2015 I think you made your feelings about Schlupp known on here last season didn't you Matt? We'll always differ in opinion over Schlupp. Despite his mind going walkies every so often (most defenders do have lapses of concentration) I think young Jeff has been one of City's best performers for months. This isn't to dismiss Christian Fuchs. He looks good stuff. But I see no reason to drop Schlupp for Arsenal. If anyone is going to have the pace and fitness level to run down their oncoming midfielders, it's him. Schlupp, along with Vardy and at present, Kante, would be amongst the first names on my team sheet. Our weakness is in the defensive qualities of both DeLaet and Schlupp. Both at Stoke were awful - DeLaet getting done on the halfway line for their first, Schlupp often a minimum of 20yds away from his man almost without exception when they came forwards. And defensively it's generally been the same so far this season. For me I would use 3-5-2 and they are immediately out of the equation - which based on what we have seen over the last 5 months would solve the problem. That doesn't mean I would necessarily drop Jeff, but he's wasted if not employed going forwards. If we do persist with 442, I would try Benny once again at RB - some of his long range passing was sublime in the week - (would not employ Simpson on moral grounds) and have Fuchs at left back. He's got pace, experience, and as was shown for King's winner in midweek, can put a decent ball in from wide. Jeff simply cannot defend at this level.
