Leicester playing like old school Italy?

I can't remember in which article/interview/tweet I read it, but it seems that some think we are playing in an Italian style of old, i.e., football built on solid defence and a very swift and effective raiding attack when the opportunity arises.

If so, this completely fits with what Claudio said he would do in those first weeks, something along the lines of "I don't want to change things too much, just add something of the Italian way".

What an amazing job Claudio has done (built on the foundations of team character and work ethic put in place by Pearson)!!!

Forza Foxes/Italia!

In some ways. Our back 4 is very old fashioned I think, with full-backs who are defensive over bombing forward is quite rare at the top of the modern game. Also, Albrighton's "defensive winger" role and Okazaki's "defensive forward" role seem very much like 80s Italian roles.

This is exactly what I've been thinking about since christmas time when we've had all those clean sheets.

I used to watch a lot of the Italian football from the 90's on Channel 4 football Italia, and even though I missed much of the Italian football from the 80's. I remember watching the Italians team dominate europe in the 90's with their classic cattenaccio style and mix of top flair players and brilliant deffensive organisation.

This Leicester team reminds me a lot of those teams and to be honest - I Love it. I've always been more appreciative of the defensive teams, and while I would not say Leicester are a defensive team I like them to keep clean sheets rather than 4-3 type games.  Since November and during the busy christmas period - I have enjoyed watching them play with this style, keeping clean sheets.

I was quite upset when Aguero scored that offside goal, it would have been a real statement to keep a clean sheet away at the Etihad. A proper Italian job.

I don't like the comparisons to playing like Barca at times. Strangely enough I enjoy our style of football much more than the slow possession tika taka stuff guardiola loves. If you look at Guardiola he wouldn't be able to dominate competitions with that style and these players. He ruined treble winning bayern who were hammered by Ancelottis Real Madrid playing a perfect modern counter attacking style - very similar to what Leicester played at Etihad. I don't understand the obsession of some like Van Gaal with Possession football.

Ranieri is good in that he is very adaptable, during the busy xmas period he ensured we didn't expend to much energy with intense pressing and we reaped the reward now.

We've got the perfect way of playing at the moment. It's literally superb and we've got it spot on. The game against Man City proved this, I have noticed a lot of the time whenever we are defending, or the opposition are having a lot of possession on the ball, we stand strong, everybody knows their roles in the side and we looked so organised as a unit. Every player puts in their own effort, there's a real togetherness with this side.

Then of course when we attack, we are immense. Our counter attacking is top notch, there's a lot of pace, skill and technical ability not only in the attacking areas, but across the whole team. It's a great balance we have got, we're solid in defence, but very good going forward.
