Probably an insurance scam.

 

Someone wanted it down so that it can be used for their benefit.

 

Happened, allegedly, at a big furniture mill (next to BP station) on Melton Road - now a car park of a kind.

I remember the same thing happening at Frog Island, it never got rebuilt and they used the space for a hand car wash for years

Yeah, exactly the same happened behind us.  Naturally, they didn't have permission to run that kind of business from the site, although whether that side of things has been sorted since I don't know, but it was years ago and it's still there
