A lot of Irish support either of those but both were formed as Catholic clubs though so that's probably where it stems. Plus you've got the many Irish the immigrated to Liverpool throughout history. In the republic I would say it's 40% Liverpool , 35% man united , 10% Leeds/Arsenal and the the rest make up the last 15% my local pub at home actually has bouncers In the pub when man united play Liverpool ! It got so bad the trouble some bars have half in half supporters areas when those two play 90% of the football following public would have an affiliation to Celtic

Strange but true ! the facilities need improving at the grounds to try and bring in a better class and number of crowd like many places in the world the premier league is the major attraction , but in ireland we have a summer football league and that has to compete with Gaelic Games , the national sports. cork City was my LOI team growing up and I used to save my wages at 15 to take the 4 hour bus trip to watch my hero Dave Allen play at turners cross I'll also throw it back at you VB and ask you to pop into any pub in Leicester when Liverpool are on the TV and see all the Leicester born Liverpool fans of Asian origin supporting the scousers , so the same could be said of any place , pity they didn't support their local team Won't disagree with you there (although you can't just make that accusation solely at Asian lads). It's a vicious cycle though isn't it? People don't support their local team in Ireland, so clubs can't invest in better players and facilities, so people continue not turning up. It's not a problem unique to Ireland by the way - I feel like the ubiquity of big leagues like the Premier League is hampering development in countries around the world. Do feel sorry for the matchgoing fans (and there is a decent little fanscene in the LoI) though, getting overshadowed by the national team's "amazing support" who only turn up at major tournaments because the vast majority are more arsed about English/Scottish club football on TV than the club round the corner. Not been to a game in Ireland but I would like to, maybe one of the Dublin derbies.
