I think when you look at Mendy's stats it's quite obvious that he needs to work on his anticipation and decision making which should be something that we can easily rectify with the right coaching. From my own observations I think this is definitely the case. I highlighted this in the post match thread after the Arsenal game, that Mendy picks up very similar positions to Kante and reads the game well, but what he lacks is the ability to anticipate the opposition's pass and step in to intercept. I personally think this will come with game time, increased experience in the PL, and confidence in his body's ability to withstand some robust challenges. I'm certain that if we can address the issue of distribution from the back and not keep gifting possession to the opposition by lumping the ball forward every five minutes we'll see a much improved Leicester City side over that which we have seen so far this season. Final paragraph is spot on. However, there must be a reason for why the defenders are launching it so often. Either they've been told to (as in, that's the plan), or they don't feel sufficiently confident to look up and give it short to a midfielder. The midfielders might not even be offering themselves short enough. Whatever the reason, our distribution stinks and must improve.
HighPeakFox Posted 11 February 2017 Posted 11 February 2017 I'm with Col on this - self-righteous or not. When Vardy was chasing everything down last season he knew that the team was right there with him (not literally), whereas this season, it's been booted and the team has hung back. Also, he may have chased 'lost causes' last year, but I expect that the % of 'stuff worth chasing' was higher overall.
