Leicester City: Premier League champions fight Financial Fair Play breach charge

Leicester City have confirmed they are legally challenging a Football League charge of breaching Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules in 2014.

It came as the Premier League champions released their financial results for 2015-16 on Thursday and declared a pre-tax profit of £16.4m to 31 May.

Somebody thought it did

I suppose this season's cost will be offset by the new TV deal. Hopefully we learn from our mistakes in terms of recruitment though because a few bad windows in a row and then you're in the shit. Swansea, despite Clement's appointment, are largely where they are because of consecutive terrible transfer windows. We need to be shrewd in the summer when it comes to having a clear out - it's going to be hard shifting some of our players (unless some Chinese clubs are stupid enough to try and sign any of Huth, Morgan and Fuchs) because of the wages they're on but we need a fair few additions too.

Our previous successful transfer business seemed partly due to our analytics (http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11662/9453688/the-science-of-scouting-abroad) but it seems that we've reverted to doing more traditional scouting which doesn't find undervalued players. We certainly can't afford to be so frivolous in the summer.

I know they say the devil is in the detail but in simple terms the additional TVmonies has been used near enough 100% to fund the significant growth in wages. The other income streams have hardly risen at all but it's the player trading that will be interesting to see as to how the figures are made up for at first glance they don't tie up.

Of course accounts aren't quite straight forward but if income was £128.7 million how's that made up?

£93.2 million TV

£14.4million Sponsorship/ Advertising

£7.2 Commercial

£11.5 million Gate Receipts

Total £ 126.3 million

So from £128.7 a sum of £ 2.4million remains un-accounted for

In the previous accounting year there were two other sources of income transfer fees received and conference and banqueting which brought in about £1 million .

It was reported that in 2015/16  that player trading resulted in a profit of £10.8 million . With just a couple of players sold on (Wood & Nugent) and significant increases in amortised sums this whole area of the accounts will make interesting reading but the clue may well exist in the fact that the directors raised the value of the squad from £64.6 million to over £260 Million

Another thing to remember is how much money we've made from being a participant in the Champions League. We've already earned something like 50+ million Euros. If we can advance against Sevilla, we'll earn even more.

Plus we probably earned a bit of money participating in the International Champions Cup in the pre-season (compared to 2015-2016's domestic friendlies.)

I think all of our transfers fees and increased wages would be covered by the inflow of new revenue. There's a reason that players like Jeff Schlupp cost so much, even though their perceived value is low. Premier league owners are raking it in.

£1mill per match according to this from The Scotsman in March 2016

Celtic would obviously oppose moves to “fix” the Champions League for the top clubs but they clearly find it impossible to resist Stillitano’s event which he must hope will rival and usurp the established competition one day. It has big prize money –
£1 million-plus per match – and next to no credibility. But I suppose that doesn’t really matter. It has big prize money. End of.
