Sly Posted 7 October 2005 Posted 7 October 2005 Trust me, joey has not been fireing on all cylinders, not even 3. he cost us TWO vital points at derby, his last game, hardly a player on form. I`d imaging craig was hinting at that with his comment. I thought Joey had a particle poor second half against Derby. Saying that though, he's played consistently better than the rest of the midfield this season. Get shot of Williams, I'm sick of watching the game pass him by. He is too inconsistent and lazy.

Hes played better because there is no other midfielder thats anygood. Agreed, williams is poor. he looks like a good actor/pop star though to be fair.
Anish Posted 7 October 2005 Posted 7 October 2005 You have to be very, very fit to play central midfield especially with the season well under way. I would like to think that it's only a matter of time before Hughes is consider fit enough to move to the middle, I believe CL has been using him on the wing to get him fit, he's still struggling to finish games even from there. In fact my one big doubt over Hughes is whether he has the stamina within him to make that his postion longer term. Of course the better his partner the less it will matter - Cue Weso I'm not sure about this. I'd say that playing Hughes as a right/left midfielder makes him do a hell of a lot more running than he would do if he was playing centre midfield. Levein likes one of the wide players to roam and drift inside, which Hughes does whenever he plays RM or LM. However, then Hughes also has to run back into his wide position to cover the space that is exposed. That means that he is forever running infield with the ball, back outfield without the ball (to cover the space), not to mention up and down the line. If he was naturally a wide midfielder or specifically instructed to stay wide and not drift infield (which Levein clearly tells him to do), then he would be saving a lot more energy and thus wouldn't be so tired after 60 minutes.
Blue Arrow Posted 7 October 2005 Posted 7 October 2005 Yeah i thought that he would run more on the wings - we can now play smith and sylla on the wings
step Posted 7 October 2005 Posted 7 October 2005 What is Levein talking about. "The first thing is to get everyone fit and available" - Surely the first thing is to get everyone that is fit playing well! CL has a very sensible head on his shoulders and I think CL got it right,
Ash Posted 8 October 2005 Posted 8 October 2005 I've just had enough of Levein's excuse's all the time !!
