I was in a shop in Piccadilly Circus a few years ago, the one which used to be Tower Records, which was full of these kind of "representations" of shirts, cynically aimed to appeal to tourists buying gifts to take home rather than for the fan themselves who would spot the quirks a mile off. I questioned how could they get away with it with licensing etc and it seems the worse the errors in detail are the less it can be called a "copy" and that no one is claiming (via signage or labelling) it to be anything it isn't. It was a strange experience though, when you're so used to how they should look. A little bit like when a training top gets leaked as a rumoured new kit but your gut instinct tells you it's not quite right and can't be the real thing. I thought at the time that maybe they're the following seasons strips being stocked early....but then only if the kit design tasks have been allocated to a blindfolded chimpanzee with a crayon. They weren't trendy, cool, collectable, futuristic or retro they were just a way of multiplying the value of a piece of coloured fabric without giving a damn about the recipient.
