Matt Posted 17 October 2005 Posted 17 October 2005 To fix a fecking computer! Another one of my moans but I am in a really bad mood (and no doubt any of you lot would as well!) I have a laptop, I posted about my problems with it before, I took it over about half a month ago to be fixed apparently I have lots of virus's e.t.c on it, I have other problems aswell so the bloke who fixes my PC/Laptop said i'll take everything of and re-install windows (XP) on it, he phoned me up to tell me what he was doing and to explain the problems I just said do it, I know nothing about computers apart from the basic's, I just basically said fix the bloody thing, he said "can I have the Product ID/Key" for it, I gave him some kind of code (Which I thought was right) he then phoned me back later in the day saying can I confirm the code you gave me because it seems to be wrong, and he said well I can go no further without the code he said I need the code or I will need to get another Windows XP to get another code (Which will cost about £45 - I think) so since then I have said i'll leave it with you and see if I can contact Microsoft to see if they'll give it me...I have just got round to phoning Microsoft, 1st time I had an arguement with with some bitch who just was really snotty and just clearly didn't understand my problem, then because I was ready to hit someone I got my mum to phone (My mum don't know a thing about computers but I told her what to say) and she got some (reasonable) sense out of them, they then told us to contact Dell (Manufacturer of the laptop) because I install Windows ME (The version that was on the laptop when I bought it - I had XP upgraded onto the laptop) first and then install XP after according to Microsoft, so I phoned Dell because I had calmed down (abit) then I got some slow (literally) irish woman on the phone she was asking for things I havn't got or things I didn't know about so ended up putting the phone down on her. Tommorrow my mum's gonna go to the bloke who is "fixing" the Laptop and give her all the information we have got and she's gonna get him to do all the chasing afterall he knows about PC/Laptop's and he has the Laptop infront of him with all the information there. Should and why is it this much effort and trouble to fix computers?

cisono Posted 17 October 2005 Posted 17 October 2005 Yes, it is really this hard (or worse). As has been said already, keep track of ID/keys as if they were gold (they basically are) Moreover, use a good antivirus on your laptop and update it every day if possible. Always scan a file (with your antivirus) before opening it and watch out what you download anyway. If you had done so, you probably wouldn't have run got into this mess!
