I get quoted £1049 for my current car on some Insurance companies, then I just try and see what they quote me for my next car (A VW Golf) and they only quote me £1395....£300 extra to get insurance on a Golf over a Corsa, Hows that work ....

Not sure. A guy I know (who is under 26) told me that he had to pay very high insurance for his Golf DTI... Perhaps Golfs (or their owners) are considered to be higher risk than Corsas... (ie statistically more likely to have accidents/make claims).
