oxford blue Posted 4 August 2020 Posted 4 August 2020 Perhaps I am being too pessimistic about when crowds (and other associated match day revenue) can return to normal. I realise significant sums are guaranteed for duration of TV contracts(another 2 years) but nevertheless gate and matchday revenue can be half of tv rights. i would be very surprised if this revenue stream will be more than 20% of budgeted amounts a few months ago. The government has published guidelines for when fans can return and it is clear grounds will can be no more than 30% full at a maximum with 2m spacing. I doubt whether even this could be achieved in larger stadia because of the difficulties at entrance and exit. Even the spectacle of live tv is lessened when therei s no crowd, as is the intensity of most games without a crowd motivating players. If I am not the only one who finds this, tv audiences may also fall, potentially reducing income from future tv deals. Commercial revenue.is also likely to be hit because of above Yet - what I think is the reality of club's income next season and perhaps further ahead - is not reflected in wages and transfer fees being generated in the close season eg Chilwell quoted at over £70m, Sancho at over £100m, Aubameyang wages offerred is £250k a week, which is as though everything is normal Although the FFP rules seem worthless now, nevertheless even the wealth of most owners will have been hit by the impact of CV19. Should football be more realistic about the future? I think so, but then,as I said at the start, I may be a pessimist. Or perhaps a realist?
Aus Fox Posted 5 August 2020 Posted 5 August 2020 The sooner football brings in a spending cap the better in my opinion. Every team gets the same budget in the PL, whatever they make the budget it includes all spending, wages, transfer fees etc. Would really even up the competition, the best players would still want to join the big clubs with the big history and crowds. But the pressure would be on to spend wisely.
