Two weeks after Maradona, Paolo Rossi dies. Another 80s World Cup superstar. I really hope Gary Lineker's taking care of himself.

Most people associate Rossi with 1982 but for me he was more of a star in 1978. That Italian side were so good - they almost had you thinking unpatriotic things like 'Good job they knocked out Don Revie's England in the qualifiers'. Rossi was just the epitome of Italian cool then. This is my favourite moment - playing a key role twice in the build up to this Bettega goal.

Wonderful memories of Rossi. I was nine during the 1982 World Cup and hadn't really had any interest in football until that point. No one in my family was into football but the 82 World Cup allowed me to discover it on my own. And this man Paulo Rossi became my first hero I guess. At school everyone wanted to "be" Rossi when we had playground kickabouts.

Very sad news

That hat trick!

Remains Italy's joint highest scorer at the World Cup with Baggio and Vieri.

Yeah - I hated him for that! Loved that Brazilian team so much. If only they'd had a defence.

Here's another of my favourite Rossi moments. European Cup QF 1983 at Villa Park.  That was quite a blow at the time - Liverpool also went out at the same stage and after six successive European Cup wins for English clubs (1977-82)  the run suddenly came to an end.

Well arguably he shouldn't have been there following the 'Totonero' scandal.
