Gerrard limped off before half-time during the Reds defeat at Manchester United on Monday and X-rays confirmed he has broken the fifth metatarsal. The lay-off will see Gerrard miss England's World Cup qualifiers against Wales and Azerbaijan next month. The news is a further blow to Sven-Goran Eriksson, who is already without Gary Neville and Wayne Rooney. This is real bad news for Liverpool and England ......He is are best player for England and is very much needed .I wonder who is going to replace him in the middle for England? I say :- Wright-Phillps----Beckham-----Lampard-----Bridge

I don't think Beckham is a strong or talented enough to play central mid-field as much as he likes to think he is. I'd also like to see Wright-Philips given a run but not with Becks in the centre. I haven't really got a suggestion beyond that I'm not an admirer of Butt, who else is there, any one spring to mind?

I think Hargreaves is the most over rated player in the England squad, alongside Beckham. He's versatile, but not outstanding in any position.
