davieG Posted 7 December 2005 Posted 7 December 2005 From a reliable source at County Hall. If you receive a phone call on your mobile from any person saying that he or she is a company engineer, or saying they are checking your mobile line and you have to press # 90 or # 09 or any other number then end the call immediately without pressing any numbers. There is a fraud company using a device that once you press # 90 or # 09 they can access your SIM card and make calls at your expense. forward this message to as many friends as you can to stop it. If you receive a phone call and your mobile phone displays (XALAN) on the screen don't answer the call END THE CALL IMMEDIATELY. If you answer the call your phone will be infected by a virus. This virus will erase all IMEI and IMSI information from both your phone and SIM card, which will make your phone unable to connect to the telephone network. You will have to buy a new phone. This information has been confirmed by both Motorola and Nokia.

Did hear this a while ago - although i heard that the virus transmitted by a call was a hoax as a engineer stated the only virus he knew on mobiles was either through browsing WAP or by receiving media files.
Milky Posted 7 December 2005 Posted 7 December 2005 haha don't it really irritate you though how some people live a life of scavenging and wrecking the lives of others yes, it does irritate me, why can't everyone just be civil and get on with making the most of our limited time on this earth. sigh.

I assure it's not a hoax as its from Leicestershire County Council to all their employees, I rather think they would check it out before sending it to thousands of people.
cisono Posted 7 December 2005 Posted 7 December 2005 I assure it's not a hoax as its from Leicestershire County Council to all their employees, I rather think they would check it out before sending it to thousands of people. You would think so , but that is not necessarily the case (wouldn't be the first time that a single employee decides that the thing is genuine - without checking - and sends out a general warning...). As I say, it could be legitimate, it's just that the tone of the message is too close to that of hoax emails. Perhaps they should rephrase it to make it less hoax-like. And, in any case, I am NOT talking to any engineers ringing me on my mobile(s). PS: Thanks for the warning
