Anybody know how the gate money is allocated for our away games? I.e. do LCFC get the money for the away end tickets they sell, or does it all go to the home team, or is it split?

I believe there is a small amount that goes to the away club - 5% or something like that

As far as i'm aware ... Since the mid/late 1970s, Home teams have kept all gate receipts for league games.   Cup games are different.

Btw, this would explain why our club doesn't seem at all interested in maximising our away support.   They only seem interested in trying to force us to buy £35 membership.

5% goes to the travelling team.

Have you got a link or reference to where it says this please?

AI response:

In the English Premier League, gate receipts for league matches, including away tickets, typically go entirely to the home team. This practice has been standard since 1983, when the Football League ended the previous system where away clubs received a percentage of gate receipts for league games.

However, the situation differs for cup competitions:
  • FA Cup: Gate receipts are split evenly between the home and away teams after deducting expenses, with each club receiving approximately 45% of the net receipts (the remaining percentage goes to the Football Association). For example, if Leicester plays Norwich in an FA Cup match at Carrow Road, both clubs would split the gate receipts equally after expenses.

  • EFL Cup (Carabao Cup): Similarly, gate receipts are split, with each club receiving 45% of the net receipts, and the remaining 10% going to the EFL.

  • EFL Play-Offs: In the EFL Championship play-offs, gate receipts for semi-finals are split among the four participating clubs, with each receiving 12.5% of the total gate receipts from the four semi-final matches (home and away legs). For the final at Wembley, each finalist receives 25% of the gate receipts, with the other 50% going to the EFL’s Pool Account for distribution to other League One clubs.

Note on EFL Rules for Ticket Sales: EFL regulations (applicable to the Championship, League One, and League Two) state that away clubs are entitled to a 5% commission on the aggregate sales of tickets they sell on behalf of the home club for league matches, unless both clubs agree otherwise (which is common through reciprocal arrangements where neither charges the other). However, this commission applies only to the administrative act of selling tickets, not the gate receipts themselves, which still go entirely to the home team in league matches.

These details reflect the general practice across English football, but specific arrangements can vary slightly based on mutual agreements between clubs, particularly in cup competitions or special circumstances like the 2014 Championship play-off final, where Derby County and Queens Park Rangers agreed to give their entire share of gate receipts to the loser.
