Ash Posted 9 October 2004 Posted 9 October 2004 Kevin Harper is hoping to return to action next week and make his mark at Leicester City. The winger is back in full training after an injury which at first looked to have scuppered his chances at the Walkers Stadium. The 28-year-old former Hibernian, Derby, Walsall and Norwich player was brought in from Portsmouth on a month's loan. He made an impressive debut in the 2-0 win at Rotherham last month when he set up the opening goal. But he strained a calf muscle in the warm-up for the home clash against Sheffield United three days later. He was swiftly withdrawn and there were fears that could mark the end of his spell with City. But manager Micky Adams managed to secure another month's loan out of Pompey. Harper now looks bound to see some of the action when the Coca-Cola Championship resumes with a hectic spell of three games in eight days starting with the trip to Coventry a week today. The Scot said: "It is feeling a lot better and I hope to be fully fit by the end of this break. "I have been training with the rest of the lads and I have felt all right. It is now just a question of getting myself back in the squad." Harper's loan now ends in the second week of November so he has a maximum six games to try to make his mark and possibly press his claims for a full contract, the usual aim of loan players. But City also hope to have more players than Harper back in the frame. Goalkeeper Ian Walker has been out of the team for the last seven games because of a knee problem. But he has been working in the gym and out on the training ground and appears to be well on the way back to full fitness. Skipper Matt Elliott might also have welcomed the break after his unexpected action in the Carling Cup clash against Preston on Monday night. His knee operation was a success and now he needs to build his fitness. He will add to the defensive options as City face a run of games which they hope will get them moving in the right direction again.

He gives everyone else one, i'm surprised he hasn't sacked him. Just play him micky, when he is in the mood he is twice the player harper will ever be.

When will he be back, i read that he is close to fitness, but adams has not told us much about him yet. Maybe he's "one for the future"
