davieG Posted 11 October 2004 Posted 11 October 2004 He could be here for a while. Tim Davies Quote: "We are very lucky to already have Dave Bassett at the club," he said. "He is a very experienced manager and we are in no rush to bring anyone in. We believe we have a good bunch of players at the club who can get us promoted." Full Quote: Leicester chief executive Tim Davies said the club were in no rush to appoint a successor to Micky Adams, who tendered his resignation after two and-a-half years in charge. Director of football Dave Bassett will take charge of the team for Saturday's trip to Coventry City in the Coca-Cola Championship but former Leicester striker Mike Newell has already been linked with the job after steering Luton to the top of League One. Others who could be in the frame include fellow Foxes favourite Gary McAllister and Burnley boss Steve Cotterill, who had a spell at the Walkers Stadium as coach last season. But there will be no quick appointment according to Tim Davies. "We are very lucky to already have Dave Bassett at the club," he said. "He is a very experienced manager and we are in no rush to bring anyone in. We believe we have a good bunch of players at the club who can get us promoted. "I did my best to get Micky to stay but he decided otherwise." Adams also backed Bassett to steer the Foxes back into the Premiership at the first attempt. Leicester are currently eight points behind leaders Wigan after 12 matches and face home fixtures with promotion rivals Ipswich and Stoke after the trip to Coventry. Adams said: "I want the fans to get behind Dave Bassett and I don't see a better man for the job. The next three games are winnable and there are players coming back from injury as well. "Ian Walker and Kevin Harper are on their way back and maybe my leaving will help relieve some of the pressure on them and the other players."
>>>Bevan<<< Posted 11 October 2004 Posted 11 October 2004 Dave Basset for the time being will be a good manager for Leicester hopefully he will restore some faith. He has been a very usefull person for Leicester just remember who brought in the likes of Brian Deane and Paul Dickov to Leicester
Sparky Posted 11 October 2004 Posted 11 October 2004 i think the appointment should be made asap , we dont want bassett in charge , lets have a complete fresh start
Guest Daniel Posted 11 October 2004 Posted 11 October 2004 Bassett is the tosspot behind some of the terrible signings we made, shame he dont leave aswel.
TrickyTrev Posted 11 October 2004 Posted 11 October 2004 I'd rather we keep Basset and make sure we are patient enough to get the right long term appointment rather than panic and try and get somebody in this week even if there are not any quality candidates.
Eastern Fox Posted 11 October 2004 Posted 11 October 2004 Unfortunately, the club had not choice whether to keep Bassett. When Micky Adams left,so did Alan Cork and Glan Letheran (gk coach), leaving only Bassett and Shirtliff as the only senior staff left. Hopefully this the new manager will bring in several more coaches - we didn't have enough when MA was there, let alone now
Ricey Posted 11 October 2004 Posted 11 October 2004 I'm glad we aren't rushing into a appointment and I think Bassett is a very good person to put in charge for the time being....not full time though!
Anish Posted 11 October 2004 Posted 11 October 2004 I agree that we should put our reservations aside and support Bassett and the team for the next few games. Most of us wanted Adams out and we have to accept the repurcussions - an ideal replacement is not going to be appointed the next day. I would rather the club make the correct appointment and have Bassett in charge than rush things and make a botch up.
rotherhamfox Posted 11 October 2004 Posted 11 October 2004 I really fear Bassett will be given the full reins, cheapest option, what a step backwards it would be.
MON Posted 11 October 2004 Posted 11 October 2004 Bassett is the tosspot behind some of the terrible signings we made, shame he dont leave aswel. 25850[/snapback] He'll do better than cork and he has a track-record in getting teams promoted, lets keep basset till end-of-season unless someone good stands out. like mike newell, but we have to monitor the situation beacuse he has only had 12 good games in management. not much experience.
