Steven Posted 14 October 2004 Posted 14 October 2004 Cotterill mute on Leicester link Burnley boss Steve Cotterill is refusing to discuss the prospect of taking over at Leicester. Cotterill, who spent three months coaching at The Walkers Stadium last season, has been tipped to fill the vacant managerial post following Micky Adams' resignation this week. He also has links with caretaker coach Howard Wilkinson, under whom he worked as assistant manager during an ill-fated spell at Sunderland two years ago. "I only know what I've read and what you've read - that's the simple answer to it," said Cotterill. "I don't know anything else, so there's nothing else I can comment on really." I hope this does not mean that we will have the re-birth at City of the Wilkinson Cotterill duo. Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. <_<

Scow Posted 14 October 2004 Posted 14 October 2004 It won't happen, thankfully. We need a completely fresh start, I hope the board realise that.
Scow Posted 14 October 2004 Posted 14 October 2004 BURNLEY boss Steve Cotterill today admitted he is baffled at suggestions he heads a shortlist to succeed Micky Adams at Leicester.Cotterill is being openly touted as one of the favourites to make a swift return to the Walkers Stadium, where he spent the last three months of last season working as a coach. He even tops the betting of a Leicester bookmaker to take over from Adams, who resigned his managerial position earlier this week after two-and-a-half years in charge. However, I can reveal that Leicester have made NO initial approach to either Cotterill or Burnley chairman Barry Kilby. And Cotterill, who has a three-year contract at Turf Moor, himself insists he was as surprised as anyone when he learned of the speculation. "The bottom line is I only know what I have read in the newspapers," he said. "People will ask questions but I only know what everybody else has read and as such, it's pure speculation." It is hardly surprising City are being linked with Cotterill. He is firm friends with caretaker manager Dave Bassett and he made a huge impact working behind the scenes towards the end of a turbulent campaign at Leicester dogged by off-field problems. However, the likes of Gary McAllister, Glenn Hoddle, George Graham, Paul Jewell and Mike Newell have already been mentioned in the same breath as the Clarets chief. And until the City board draw up a firm shortlist, it remains open season for bookmakers and journalists alike. Link This journalists 'claims' we haven't approached Burnley - Let's hope it stays that way.
gjp Posted 14 October 2004 Posted 14 October 2004 please god nooooooooooooooooooooooo icant take much more for ****s sake get newell mac or just someone who isnt a cock. look what happened at sunderland for gods sake when these gonzos were in charge!
Anish Posted 14 October 2004 Posted 14 October 2004 If we did get Cotteril I don't think Howard would be staying anyway. He's here on a temporary basis and I'm sure Cotteril realises just how useless Wilko is after their stint at Sunderland.
Lanchester redandwhite Posted 14 October 2004 Posted 14 October 2004 As a Sunderland fan, I bet Wanko will be pushing for Cotterill if he has anything to do with it, he seems to see him as his protege or something. Up here, they continued to speak very highly of each other even after they were both sacked. I also reckon that Wanko must be hoping that there will be some job for him at LCFC, otherwise I doubt he would have gone there for a few weeks. The question for me is whether Cotterill would want to leave Burnley so soon, but he has a long history of dotting around from job to job, and the presence of Wanko at LCFC may swing it. But Im sure you dont need me to tell you that it would be a disastrous appointment for you.

The rest, as they say, is 19-point history. PS - Ive got nothing against LCFC, Im not some agent of doom, just interested to see how this pans out.
