davieG Posted 9 February 2006 Share Posted 9 February 2006 From Sky Real Madrid were humiliated 6-1 by Real Zaragoza in the first leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final. Diego Milito helped himself to four goals as Zaragoza all but booked their place in the final. Zaragoza cut Madrid to shreds in the opening exchanges and Milito had put the hosts in control with a hat trick in the opening 34 minutes. Madrid pulled a goal back on 37 minutes when Julio Baptista headed home David Beckham's cross. Zaragoza picked up where they left off at the start of the second half and Argentine ace Milito netted his fourth goal on 56 minutes. Brazilian star Ewerthon then got involved in the act and added another two goals (59), (82) to send the home fans into raptures. The defeat is a major blow for Madrid as they had been on a good run of form recently and it appears their hopes of winning the Copa del Rey are up in smoke. It was the Madrid side's heaviest loss since their 6-0 defeat to Valencia in a cup semi-final in 1999.
