MC Prussian Posted 11 February 2006 Posted 11 February 2006 I just got the first series from 1994 a couple of days ago. After watching "Dogville" for the first time (which didn't impress me that much), I looked after von Trier's past works and stepped over this fine mini-series about the most modern hospital in Copenhagen, nicknamed "The Kingdom". It's a unique combination of a catchy soap opera and a really creepy ghost story, since the entire ground the building stands on is haunted here. I've finished the fourth and last one-hour episode and tell you, I've rarely seen anything else more intriguing and fascinating. It sucks you right in, ties you to the screen and gives you shivers... And the actors are top-notch, a great ensemble, very convincing. Read more here. Anyone else familiar with it? I highly recommend watching it.
shen Posted 12 February 2006 Posted 12 February 2006 Classic, yes. I hardly know a Dane that hasn't seen it. It was shown on BBC as well, twice even if I remember right. Riget and Breaking The Waves is what really got Von Trier's career going, but having said that, he's a complete nutter and his movies/series are really a bit distorted. Riget 2 is not as good as the first series though, it get's really far out...
