Muz Posted 25 October 2004 Posted 25 October 2004 Just wondered i heard a rumour that Scowcroft is out of contract in the summer! True or False?
Anish Posted 25 October 2004 Posted 25 October 2004 Well he is getting paid far too much having been one of Taylor's signings. Instead of getting rid of him we should try to renegotiate on lower wages.
Scow Posted 25 October 2004 Posted 25 October 2004 He'll go in the summer probably - He's on 17k a week at the minute, so no chance of getting anywhere near that. I reckon he'll go back to Ipswich.
Anish Posted 25 October 2004 Posted 25 October 2004 I don't think Ipswich need him - they have better players in Bent, Counago, Bowditch etc without having to sign Scowycroft.
Guest Posted 25 October 2004 Posted 25 October 2004 Just when we start to get some performances out of him......
Mad Dog Posted 25 October 2004 Posted 25 October 2004 He'll join one of the clubs that get promoted on a free.
Scow Posted 25 October 2004 Posted 25 October 2004 He'll join one of the clubs that get promoted on a free. 29075 That will be Ipswich then.
Mad Dog Posted 25 October 2004 Posted 25 October 2004 Wigan, Reading and whoever lucks out in the playoffs.

I reckon he'll go back to Ipswich. 29062 Keown is on 15k a week, I think he will go in the summer (too old, coaching position etc) therefore i Think we could pay those wages to Scowy, Benjamin who is reported to be on 15k will be gone, we can offer that to Walker. Then there is elliot who is on reportedly 35k, we can offer that to new players, dublin who is on 10k will also be gone.

The club will continue to reduce the wage bill significantly each year in accordance to paying off the outstanding debts. I think the wage bill is currently £10 Million per year - Once all the big earners are offloaded, it will be around £6-7 Million per year. You don't know Dublin/Keown are on 10k/15k - And it's likely that they're not on that wage. Some people think Williams is on 18k a week, I doubt that very much.

Ash Posted 25 October 2004 Posted 25 October 2004 He'll join one of the clubs that get promoted on a free. 29075 It all depends on how we do IMO, we still have a chance of promotion. If we did get promoted he would stay with us

I hope we would be smart enough to let him go, depending on the new manager

Buzzell Posted 25 October 2004 Posted 25 October 2004 Scowys one of our best players and I wouldnt like seeing him going but if he does it will be a big loss.
Anish Posted 25 October 2004 Posted 25 October 2004 His level is the Championship. He would be no good for us in the Prem (as shown last season). I don't think it would be a great loss him being released - just a great shame that we would lose him for free having paid £3million for him. He isn't a natural goalscorer and his only real strengths are heading and flick ons, which were found out by the best defenders.

Scowy reminds me of a Teddy Sheringham type of player (although not as good as Teddy), very intelligent, good vision, technically very good. Personally I think he may stay with us because I dont think he is going to get many better offers, plus we will hopefully be able to offer premiership football (being very optimistic).
Sparky Posted 25 October 2004 Posted 25 October 2004 surely we will need him if he is championship quality ! lets not count chickens that we will be playing premiership football next season

We are in the position of either replacing the bulk of the squad again (if and thats a big if) we get promoted, which is a policy that many on here don't like. Or, throwing some youngsters in and potentially struggling for a season or so and hope that they come come good. Which others won't like. Problem with the second option is that (IMO) if we go on a losing streak, patience will wear thin with the masses.
