cisono Posted 20 May 2006 Posted 20 May 2006 Hi everyone, Long time I just popped out for a bit of food shopping around lunchtime today and, when I got back, I was surprised and angered to find out that the cover on our door letterbox had "gone". This is a new, security door (the double-glazing type) with mortar locks (or whatever they are called) and it is just not possible that the cover simply fell to the ground, as there are clear-cut breaks at the sides and the cover is nowhere in sight. I live on a busy main road and it seems strange that someone would attempt ehmm... do this in full daylight, on a Saturday... but was it a coincidence that the house happened to be empty at that exact time (it normally never is)? Creepy... Has anyone heard of anything like this happening anywhere else in Leicester? cisono. (worried and annoyed)

(worried and annoyed) I can't see why they would want it but they were probably watching the house waiting and watching to see if anyone was in or when someone left the house. Seems weird anyone would do or want this though.

Seems weird anyone would do or want this though. It is unlikely that they wanted the letterbox flap. I think they removed it for "easier access". They might have thought that the door would open if you pushed down the handle from the inside or they may have been after my bunch of keys (including car keys) - as we know, many people leave their keys either in the lock or by the main door. Talking to a friend this afternoon, I found out that a friend of his has had the same experience recently (within the last two weeks). It seems to me that they target specifically letterboxes with bigger openings and placed in the middle of the door (the type on double glazed doors, not the "older type" smaller letterboxes). The area this has been reported in Clarendon Park/Welford Road. Watch out! They may soon target your area too! If you have double glazing or a big letterbox in particular, try installing a hidden security camera. It would be great to catch the b*st*rds!
