REET 10 years ago wigan athletic was only getting 1/2k average crowds, but you wouldnt know this as obviously you have a lazy, ignorant attitude towards my club, so please do some research before you have a cheap, overexaggerating dig at my club we only came into the league 25 years ago, what was you like 25 years ago, tell me... you and many others cant accept that we have come a long way in such a short space of time and its a shame our crowds havent followed as you know, wigan is also a hotbed for rugby as i play rugby myself the rugby team are world famous, most succesful ever so its hard for a football team to get the crowds in this town as most prefer the rugby, but what we are doing is getting the younger generation watching latics, and its coming on slowly with the town turning blue did you know that we have 6 massive premiership clubs around us? do you? no are you a small town as well? no are we? yes our crowds have gone up 500% from 10 years ago and no other club can say their crowds have risen at that rate theres more i can say, lets just hope you now know why our crowds arent impressive as you'd like them to be

Scow Posted 16 November 2004 Posted 16 November 2004 jarrett was out since pre season as he broke hig leg apparently the duke has to see a specialist about his shoulder but there has been no news about him not playing on sat mculloch is 50/50 as you said alan mahon will play scowy, i disagree about the ellington/roberts bit plymouth deserved the win, and we was just jaded after 3 games in 6 days if we are lightweight without our 2 main strikers, then what are you?? as our midfield and defence is better than yours. dont build your hopes up, for the few that will be comin you'll be going home dissapointed 36399[/snapback] The nature of the game now see's alot of teams play 3 games in 6/7 days. So with either Roberts/Ellington missing, who do you have to replace them? Lee Mcculoch? I agree that your midfield is better than our's, although I'm not sure about the defence bit. If we played Canero/Keown/Stearman/Stewart at the back, I'm sure that would be one of the best in the division. Even Canero/Keown/Heath/Stewart is still a decent back line.

Ric Flair Posted 17 November 2004 Posted 17 November 2004 Cracking debate this is! I am a big fan of Wigan's I like the way they go about their business, nice football. Looking at your team I think you have a nice balance, in this league it's not all about having necessarily better player or bigger names. It's about who wants it the most, graft and confidence. If you looked at our team and the names we have in the side you could be forgiven for thinking we should walk this league but the reason we aren't doing is because of the lack of passion, team spirit and confidence thanks to Mr Adams. The season we got promoted we didn't really have many class players, but our will to win and our siege mentality just won us plenty of games. This season is different we haven't got that solidarity that is needed in this horrible league. To be honest this league is shocking, full of horrible teams like ourselves, and even yourselves. Without money no team in this league has a good enough team to survive in the premiership and that's the problem. I think you will probably beat us on saturday, but Levein has installed abit of confidence back in the players and looking at our squad you can't write us off. Teams like QPR, Derby, Reading, Millwall, Stoke and a few others are pretty abysmal teams yet they are doing better than us, that's how crazy this league is. Man for man your team isn't that much better than ours, we've just got too many journeymen in our team that thought it would be an easy ride this season. John Filan isn't better than Ian Walker, although he's better than Pressman. Walker has achieved more in the game than Filan and rightly so as he's too goof for this league. Leighton Baines is a quality player and he possibly just shades Jordan Stewart, but Stewart is also a good player with bags of potential and that will be a good battle on saturday, both like getting forward. Emerson Thome and Matt Jackson have a good understanding of each other and that's good, but again they are by no means better than Martin Keown, Matt Heath or Richard Stearman, The problem is Nikos Dabizas tends to play and he is a liability in this league or any league. Who's your right back? Apologies for not remembering, we have got Peter Canero who has bags of potential and looked excellent when he played in the premiership last season. If you have a better right back than Canero then fair play to you, but I doubt it. Left wing you have Mahon, steady player but compared to Danny Tiatto I think he falls short. Tiatto is one of the best players in this league and he's wasted at Leicester, having said that I rate Mahon alot. Central midfield is a dodgy one, you have Bullard who's quality. We have some good central midfielders but their consistency is a problem Lilian Nalis never lets us down and Gudjonsson and Williams are inconsistent but both players who potentially are premiership players. Right wing you win hands down, Teale is a tidy player. We have Gillespie who has improved vastly since Levein has taken charge but still he lacks confidence to beat a man. Upfront you win aswell, although Connolly and Scowcroft are still capable of scoring goals. Connolly by rights should be one of the best strikers in this league but he's having a rough time here. He's been lethal at every club he's been at other than us and he was on the wing at West Ham. Ellington is class and Roberts is playing his best football of his career at Wigan. He was pretty shit at West Brom and Pompey to be fair, not a natural goal scorer but on fire in this league. Should be a good game. I think your a good team and you deserve to go up and I think you will, let's just hope your bad run continues for just one more week.
