Vocal-Legend!! Posted 18 November 2004 Posted 18 November 2004 Last night Wayne Rooney was a disgrace to every englishman and especially to Emlyn Hughes and Keith Weller and their respective families. If that is just a part of his game.. then we dont need it. An arrogant, egotistical overpaid w@ nk er with no repsect for players who were legends long before he ever bounced into a mcdonalds
Ric Flair Posted 18 November 2004 Posted 18 November 2004 I knew this would get blown out of proportion, I can't stand all these people that keep slagging Rooney off but then try to get as far up his arse when he rips teams to pieces. It takes the piss, all this hysteria that comes with Rooney. Why is it that we rave about our boy wonder then go ape shit at him at every opportunity aswell, what do you want? Fair enough he didn't handle himself very well last night and the armband thing was a little stupid but it didn't offend me and I doubt it would offend Keith Weller or Emelyn Hughes. Players wear those armbands out of respect, it's what they do whether the player has any emotional ties with the person that's passed away. Now was it dis-respectful what he did? Or was it because he was frustrated he was being taken off and as he would be leaving the pitch the armband would be coming off soon anyway? I personally just think it's another chance for people to get on Rooney's back, ****in get a life you sad bastards. I'll stand by the fact that I rate Rooney as a footballer and that's all i'm interested in seeing. He's not a bad lad, he's no worse than alot of footballers like Keane, Alan Smith, Cantona, Vieira and many others who are idolised for their explosive behaviour. Leave the dude alone, if it wasn't for football you wouldn't be bothered about him.
Jonesy_rules Posted 18 November 2004 Posted 18 November 2004 believe it or not, i think rooney is an over-rated, over-paid, tossa, he showed no respect and deserves to be dropped from the England Squad, he gives a two shakes of a monkeys tale if he can rip teams apart, he's a cheat! Look at ManUtd this season, not doing brilliantly, and have Rooney, then look at Everton, who everyone was saying would struggle without Rooney, shows he's not as fantastic as everyone thought, he'll turn out a miuxture of Owen and g8 (gazza) thowing the armband on the floor while on the pitch SO CAMERAS CAN SEE, is DISRESPECTFUL! he lost his dummy and went in a strop, fecking tw @

But you will also find that people who were wanking over Rooney's exploits in Euro 2004 are also the first ones to jump on the bandwagon when he does something wrong. It's ****in stupid I can't be arsed with all this shit, him being hero then villain all the time. The media are wankers and I really couldn't give a shit what Rooney does other than his footballing exploits. It's not as if what he does is much different to what other footballers do, Beckhams done some stupid stuff in the past as have alot of players and it won't take long before this is forgotten and Rooney will be the hero again. I would love to make a thread with all the headlines The Sun ran on Rooney in Euro 2004 and all the other shit they then write about him, ****in hypocrites like alot of the fans are. Over-rated my arse, well if that's the case why was he idolised like you've never seen before in the summer. I've watched football for a long time and i've never seen the hysteria surrounding Rooney as I have with any other english footballer including gazza, owen and lineker. The fans all bought in to it aswell as the media, Rooney was the darling of england in the summer and there wouldn't of been many fans claiming he was over-rated, over paid, money garbbing, arrogant willy puller. So for **** sake stop criticising him and then trying to bum rape him when he nails a shit load of goals in. It's pathetic, it's football were talking here. If he's not good enough to play football then he should be criticised, if he is good enough to play football then he should be praised. It's as simple as that, but you don't score 4 goals in 3 games in the Euro Championships, a hat-trick on your debut in the champions league and many other things he's done if your over-rated and crap at football. End of story.
Scow Posted 18 November 2004 Posted 18 November 2004 I honestly don't think he meant to cause offense last night. He was extremely frustrated at being taken off because things weren't going for him. Do you honestly think he took off the armband to intentionally disrespect Emlyn Hughes and Keith Weller? No, maybe he should have conducted himself better, but people are going way over the top here.

I really wish people would dish out criticism and praise more fairer than they do because otherwise we have situations all the time like this. Blown out of proportion yet again, just like the arse licking during Euro 2004. Rooney is a quality footballer, he's not the finished article and his tempament is a problem. It's a small problem though, tempraments have never stopped a footballer playinf football long term. Other than his temprament Rooney is an excellent player and he'll continue to get better. Players of Rooney's ability don't go off the boil unless they haven't got the right frame of mind ala Gazza. Rooney absolutely gags for football and everybody knows it, he isn't a big drinker unlike Gazza was. Rooney won't fail as a footballer, he is a rare talent and we should be encouraging him, not crucifying him at the slightest opportunity.
Scow Posted 18 November 2004 Posted 18 November 2004 The nature of the English media will ensure that it won't happen though. They take on opinions which cause controversy - Bottom line is, it sells papers. It's a shame because we can be our own worst enemy sometimes, we don't help ourselves by buying this crap. Rooney will go on to be a world class player, not that he isn't one now. His aggression will be controlled more as he matures, and this should be further helped by the guidance of Fergie. Deep down, the media couldn't give a toss how well we do. You might get sports journalists who genuinely want to see us do well, but they're dictated by people at the top who decide what is printed. £Â£Ã‚£
Guest Posted 18 November 2004 Posted 18 November 2004 At the end of the day, he's either a disrespectful idiot, or a petulant little tosser narked at not getting his own way. Either way, he's not showing himself up favourably. As for the press, celebrities are always built up when they do something good, and then knocked down when they're bad. Most of the time, it's their own doing anyway. If Rooney didn't want details of his affairs being made public, he should have kept his tackle in his pants. Like another famous England player, Wayne Rooney is more than happy to use the press to his and his girlfriend's advantage. You can't expect the press not to reciprocate.

Guest Posted 18 November 2004 Posted 18 November 2004 Let's hope you're right about the drinking, I'm sure when gazza was his age he didn't drink as much, by the way wasn't that a bottle of beer Rooney was drinking when he returned to the bench? 36956 Looked like it to me!!
Ric Flair Posted 18 November 2004 Posted 18 November 2004 If it was a beer the papers would of been on to it straight away. Gazza might not of been drinking at Rooney's age, but I think although Rooney has a fierce temperament if you speak to anyone in football they will say that Rooney is extremely dedicated to football and all he wants to do is play football. Whether that changes as his life goes on I don't know, but just because he's an awesome talent doesn't mean he'll go down the same route as Gazza. It's the papers again trying to stir up shit by comparing him to Gazza, pathetic. Yes, what Rooney did last night was stupid but it's been blown out of proportion yet again and it annoys me. Rooney probably isn't that bothered what the media write about him, but it bothers other people. I mean this is the paper that signed a deal with Rooney after his exploits in euro 2004, so he could give his story about the wirlwind few weeks. Then they are there to claim he's a disrespectful arsehole for what he did last night. Well if The Sun want to get picky about things I think they are ****in disrespectful for stating on numerous occasions in the paper today that the players wore armbands as a mark of respect for Emelyn Hughes and they didn't once mention Keith Weller in their articles today. Correct me if i'm wrong but it was for both of them, but I suppose The Sun think Hughes is more important than Weller! Makes me sick.
davieG Posted 18 November 2004 Posted 18 November 2004 Well if there was a vote to determine who commanded the least respect Rooney or the the Sun, I will not call it a newspaper it would be no contest. But the Sun being hypocritical, asinine sewage doesn't in anyway excuse Rooney's petulant behaviour. I might add that you can add John Terry's name to the list of England players, such as Rooney and Neville who let themselves down as I certainly didn't miss his deliberate kick at Joaquin very early on in the game. All in all it was a thoroughly unprofessional performance in terms of discipline, commitment and skill.
Guest Daniel Posted 18 November 2004 Posted 18 November 2004 I dont like Rooney as a person, i think he is very arrogant, thick and pathetic. As a footballer, i havnt got a bad word for him. Simple as that, aslong as he rips teams apart for england, he can drink as much, throw as many armbands and eat as many mcdonalds as he wants.
Shum Posted 18 November 2004 Posted 18 November 2004 Without a doubt, the guy has so much talent, but if he continues in this vein with his attitude he is going to be another Gazza and not fulfil his full potential. But if that's the case, he has no one to blame but himself and what a loss that would be for English Football.

Have Roy Keane, Patrick Vieira, Eric Cantona or David Beckham ruined their careers because of their explosive temperaments? NO.

He's got a love for the game, you cant beat that attitude. He was gutted because he was took off, he loves the game, its the attitude i like to see. He is nothing like Gazza.

NO. 36988 That maybe so, his attitude still stinks though! 36991 I don't think his attitude is that bad, it comes with the complete package. Rooney's fiery streak isn't pre-meditated, he loves his football and is a winner. He wants to win, he is like a pitbull. Ideally he wouldn't have this petulance about him, but he might well curb that. Everything about him suring Euro 2004 was spot on, the way he conducted himself, the way he handled the expectation and the hysteria, everything. I think a player like Rooney needs that side to his game to a certain extent otherwise he'll buckle under the pressure. That anger he has is because he is desperate to win and confident in his own ability, all he wants to do is play football. Off the pitch he's a shy lad, just gets on with things. You just imagine being him, the pressure would be immense, yet it doesn't bother him. I admire him, many players can't handle it. Gazza couldn't, Rooney will.

Guest Daniel Posted 18 November 2004 Posted 18 November 2004 Sorry Hoof but your very wrong on the shy part. He visits brothels and used to be a bully at school, doesnt seem too shy to me.
Vocal-Legend!! Posted 18 November 2004 Author Posted 18 November 2004 yeah.....i heard when he went in, he asked for Fresia Talc and a hairnet!
Ash Posted 18 November 2004 Posted 18 November 2004 Rooney reacted to being substituted in a bad way like any other footballer would , Yes he done the wrong thing by throwing the band away ,but im sure he didnt mean it in any disrespect to Hughes or Weller !
Teeno Posted 18 November 2004 Posted 18 November 2004 Like most have said he hasn't meant it disrespectfully. I don't understand why he reacted though. Surely he should of realised the way he was playing he would of been sent of and Sven did the senceible thing for a freindly game.
Guest Posted 19 November 2004 Posted 19 November 2004 The fact he gave no thought at all about the consequences of his actions shows he is an immature little boy. Stick him back in the U21's until he grows up.

He might be a little bit immature but do you punish him or try and aid him? If he wasn't performing very well and getting himself worked up then perhaps the under 21's would be useful but considering he's been our best player for over a year I find your comments ludicrous. Goals win you matches, his goals have been vital for England. This is the first time he's properly lost his rag for England, he deserves another chance. Rooney would be a loss to England it's as simple as that. Don't cut your nose off to spite your face.
