Nationwider Posted 8 July 2006 Posted 8 July 2006 ...at SGE. Super Soaraway Link. For once, I agree with a moaning English footballer. I hold SGE 100% responsible for Rooney's red card. Eriksson sent Rooney loonyMICHAEL OWEN has accused Sven Goran Eriksson of sending Wayne Rooney loony. Owen is the first England star to slam former boss Eriksson. The crocked Newcastle striker believes Eriksson contributed to Rooney’s red card against Portugal last Saturday by playing him as a lone striker. Owen said: “You would suggest he’s probably only got angry because of what’s happened in the first hour of that game. It’s a frustrating role to play. “Wayne Rooney is one of the best strikers in the world and you’re cutting one of his legs off if you’re playing just one up front.†Owen’s blast comes in an interview with Matt Smith to be shown during ITV1’s World Cup final coverage.

I still think that 4-5------Rooney was his greatest gaffe though.
davieG Posted 8 July 2006 Posted 8 July 2006 Rooney was already looney, I think SVE did a poor job of managing the team and Rooney. But it's Rooney's job to perform on the pitch no matter what the circumstances. For example what if we'd have playedd 442 and Crouch had been sent off after 10 mins, Rooney would have been up front on his own are we going to say it's then Crouch's fault if Rooney then goes looney and takes us down to 9 men, I don't thonk so. As a striker it's much more noticeable when you get sent off, it's also less excusable as you are not involved in so many card inducing encounters. If he doesn't get a grip on himself his career will flounder. I think Owen's comments are his way of critcising SVE without it seeming personal, I should imagine it goes a lot deeper.
Tomassi Posted 8 July 2006 Posted 8 July 2006 Funny how Owen never admitted he was utter tripe himself eh? If Rio can be dropped and come back to perform then why cant own be dropped? Hopefully McClaren will sort this
macbeth Posted 8 July 2006 Posted 8 July 2006 Funny how Owen never admitted he was utter tripe himself eh? If Rio can be dropped and come back to perform then why cant own be dropped? Hopefully McClaren will sort this too right.......deflect the blame ...MO 's got a future in politics
Thracian Posted 8 July 2006 Posted 8 July 2006 So days after you could have read that conclusion on FoxesTalk, Michael Owen gets quoted like some sort of sage enlightening the world with his great wisdom. SGE was a tactical/inspirational disaster but it didn't help his cause when he scored an own goal at the start by picking Owen. And with the contribution the striker so predictably made, you would think Owen would have had the good grace to keep his mouth shut rather than firing cheap shots at a guy who was daft enough to show such unexpicably blind faith in him and to give him the chance of a lifetime which he didn't deserve. The only yapping Owen should be involved in is sending apologies to the demonstrably fit and far more deserving strikers who never got to the World Cup because of his illogical and entirely unjustified selection. SGE was a failure but at least he was there to see the job through.
