Gig hopping

Here's a thread to list the gigs you go to - (I thought there was already such a thread but I can't find it)

So - I'll kick it off with last nights Tribute to Metal Godz show in Singapore

This was basically a bunch of local metal bands playing a mixture of their own songs and covers of all time metal classics

Highlight of the night for me was A female fronted band (Don't know which band they were) covering Judas Priest's breaking the law

Here's the flyer:

6th August 2006 halfway down

as in Murder She Wrote the TV programme with the main character Jessica.

And I scoured through all the band names as well (twice) - It just too damn small on my screen - or it was too early in the morning

Last night I went to LoudFest 2006 in Singapore

A nice mix of speed metal and D-Beat Punk

Bizarelly enough I had my first experience of crowd surfing - I had no choice in the matter - 2 Guys grabbed me without warning and fired me up in the air and that was it - Seemed like I was up there for ages - Much crazyness

Also much Asahi Beer & Absolut Vodka :) - And much bruises today :(

Tonight's musical entertainment was in the form of a gig by Demilitarized at Nan Yang Poly, Singapore

A bizzare night - The poly does not allow smoking or alcohol on site and worse still it appears that there are no shops within a hundred mile radius which sell alcohol - So apart from a large bottle of Tiger beer that I had with my meal earlier, I didn't have a drop of alcohol until I got back to my hotel

On top of that the security team at the poly decided that all non residents had to be off campus by 10:00PM - A bit of a problem because Demilitarized were not playing until 10:00

We dodged the security somehow or other

Demilitarized was fun to watch and they even played an Extreme Noise Terror cover - I was invited top join them on stage but declined on this occasion (I can't fully remember how to play the song)

Last night Mrs Deathside & I ventured out to that London - Camden to be precise

At a place called Bar Monsta (formerly G Lounge) we saw New Generation Superstars - A band who are based in Leicester / not***gham

Mrs DS has been doing some photography work for them recently - If I get off my arse and do some updating you'll be able to see some of their pics on her website soon?

I find it hard to describe their music - heavilly influenced by original US Punk (Ramones / Deadboys / Johnny Thunders / New York Dolls) and also more recent stuffs like Sweden's Backyard Babies

Anyways it was a good show - Apart from some cóck spraying people with beer

My ears are fúcked big time today

Today I attended the first day of the Pukkelpop Festival - From a distant I heard:

  • Gomez
  • Magic Numbers
  • Orson
  • Raconters
  • RadioTed

Also whilst waking between stages I heard something that seemed quite interesting - Turned out to be We Are Scientists

Later I saw

  • a little bit of Mastodon - OK
  • Turbonegro - I was on the crash barrier at the front and I was blown away - Best live show in years
  • Sick Of It All - Kinda good - But after Turbonegro seemed a little boring

Oh Shít

Here's some fat old bloke with his Turbonegro balloon that he got tonight...:o

Day 2 of Pukkelpop - I saw:

  • Millencolin - Nothing special
  • The Frames - Only saw them because they were playing in a marquee and it suddenly started to píss down
  • Twilight Singers feat Mark Lanegan - Not quite QOTSA
  • Fear Factory - Way better than I expected
  • Ministry - The most intense musical experience I've had in years
Posted

Third and final day of Pukkelpop (Saturday 19 Aug)

  • Backyard Babies - Damn good and the bass player had a St Pauli patch on his jeans
  • Eagles of Death Metal - I was a bit distracted by the huge thunder storm that came out of nowhere
  • Pennywise - Included great covers in their set - Black Flag - Nervous Breakdown & Ramones - Blitzkrieg Bop

TCTC tonight in Oxford, can't wait!

Saw them at V. A good set although possibly the most shambolic I've ever seen seeing as half their equipment broke and they all seemed to fall out on stage. They had to make the setlist up as they were going along hence the chaos and bickering!

HERE COMES A PANZER ATTACK!!

The venue got switched from upstairs to downstairs when I saw them last Friday. It was incredible, the room had a really low ceiling, the stage was about 12 foot by 10, pretty funny when there are five of them and the room was tiny, must have been about 300 people packed in there. Was cracking. Panzer Attack is fantastic live, and I like the new song Head too. Bickering?? Haha! Love it! And WAS were good too?

Looks like it's time for some more bare-faced file-sharing.

If it's bare faced, I'm in!

Sorry to ask this in here... but Dirty Pretty Things... what do we all reckon? Quite enjoyed a single a while back.

Personally... not for me. But then the Libertines is a lot to live up to. Just my opinion. I've heard they are a popular beat combo that play to hundreds, nay, thousands of adoring fans across the country. But I think they are a bit bowlocks.

Fact of the Day which you may know hence why you asked about Dirty Pretty Things or it may have just been a big coincidence = Didz Hammond (no relation to backrow-botherer Elvis) left The Cooper Temple Clause to join Dirty Pretty Things.
