Matt Posted 22 July 2006 Posted 22 July 2006 If I knew i'd have gone down the Borough wasn't till the next morning at work someone said "Did you go down the boro' last night" I reaslised. Anyway, I'm not a fan of friendlies anyway, there needed for fitness/training but friendlies are not great to watch IMO, having said that I would have probably gone to this game if I knew and i'll probably go to the Hinckley v Leicester game. I've not seen anyone post anything on this game but Nuneaton Borough 3 - 2 Coventry City! (Official Coventry Sity)Coventry City surrendered a two-goal lead as they went down 3-2 at local rivals Nuneaton Borough on Thursday night. Strikes from Don Hutchison and Dele Adebola had put the Sky Blues firmly in charge at Manor Park, but two goals from Gez Murphy and a third from Neil Moore gave the home side the win. Micky Adams fielded a strong side for the game, with a back four of Andy Whing, Elliott Ward, Mikkel Bischoff and Marcus Hall, with James Scowcroft, Stephen Hughes, Michael Doyle and Jay Tabb up front. Hutchison and Adebola started up front for City, while Coventry fielded Czech Republic trialist Jaroslaw Drobny in goal. The visitors dominated proceedings for the majority of the first half and created the opening chances after six and eight minutes respectively, when Hutchison's strike rose over the crossbar and Whing's cross-cum-shot flew narrowly wide of the far post. But Coventry did manage to make the breakthrough in the 18th minute - Hutchison producing driving the ball into the back of the net to give the home side the advantage. After half an hour, the Sky Blues doubled the deficit. Hughes' corner couldn't connect with Bischoff in middle but it did fall to Hutchison on the far side, who smashed it towards the goal, only to see Adebola steal a cheeky touch on the way through. Three minutes later, Adams' men were unlucky not to get another. Jay Tabb collected the ball just outside the area before producing a rocket which thundered back off the crossbar to Ward, who saw his effort claimed by the goalkeeper. But it fell apart for City before the break, with two goals in quick succession dictating that Borough went in level at half-time. Murphy slotted home the first via a penalty, which was awarded after Doyle brought down David Staff in the area, before Murphy bagged another three minutes later when he caught the keeper out to slot home. The goals buoyed the home side and they emerged as the brighter team after the break. Whing produced a last-ditch challenge on Murphy to deny the striker his hat-trick just before the hour, before Nuneaton added their third and final goal on 61 minutes when the Sky Blues failed to clear their lines from a corner and Neil Moore took it on his chest before firing it home on the half volley. Adebola saw his one-on-one saved by the keeper and Scowcroft same close at the near post, but it wasn't enough for City, who couldn't level the scores. Though he was disappointed with the result, manager Micky Adams said the game was an important exercise. "I don't think people should read too much into pre-season results. We would have obviously preferred to win the match but most importantly, the purpose of playing these matches is to give the players the amount of games they need before the season kicks off." Coventry City: Drobny; Whing; Hall; Bischoff; Ward; Hughes; Tabb (Thornton, 85); Doyle; Adebola (McNamee, 68); Hutchison; Scowcroft. Subs not used: Belford; Lynch; Gooding; Davis; Turner If only Nuneaton had beat Middlesborough in the FA Cup, Met Cov in the next round and beat them! The sad thing is according to my mate who went he said after the match the Coventry fans ran into the Cock And Bear stand (Where most boro fans are situated) and tried to start a riot, I don't like any violence at football its sad, but when fans start trying to fight a friendly matches its abit of a joke.
