Nationwider Posted 30 July 2006 Posted 30 July 2006 I love car boot sales. The last one I went to I got a Russ Abbott album and a nearly-new anthology of American literature (worth £35) for a quid! There's always a use for tat. I usually move my tat in with the clutter. The clutter then forms part of my stuff.

DanTheFoxBhoy Posted 30 July 2006 Posted 30 July 2006 I love what you find at them but I hate the people who go to them! They're always fat middle aged bower birds looking for a bargain.

Nationwider Posted 30 July 2006 Posted 30 July 2006 I love what you find at them but I hate the people who go to them! They're always fat middle aged bower birds looking for a bargain. How rude. <_< And anyway, what's wrong with a bargain. Or some tat, for that matter?

Thracian Posted 30 July 2006 Posted 30 July 2006 It's not just tat that sells at car boots. While I mentioned to DavieG that you can get quality used golf clubs for £10 a set (including bag) if you're lucky - or a nearly new bike for £15 (at Croft today), you can also sell items worth £100's of pounds. Sometimes it might be on the second or third sighting but there are people trawling boot sales with real cash to spend if something takes their fancy. And not just occasionally but every week. The authorities are forever nervy of boot sales and periodically bring the collective good name of hundreds of booters into disrepute by carping on about dodgy trades descriptions, stolen or not-fit-for-purpose goods. The reality is that the huge majority of traders are perfectly straightforward people who are selling exactly what they tell you. Even electrical goods can usually be tested on site, and almost always give good service in my experience. Booters in my experience will quite happily give a telephone number, answer any questions honestly and be perfectly willing to take goods back on the rare occasions when a customer isn't happy. But for the best buys you need to get there early. That means 5-30/6-00 at Croft. Dealers are always out in force and they cover many areas of expertise between them. But they are usually tight fisted by need and nature so the secret is to pay the price if given the chance - assuming you really want the thing. And talk to the booters.... Dealers rush from stall to stall forever afraid that they might miss something. But spend time with a booter and you sometimes find they've got just the thing you wanted at home and are perfectly happy to bring it for you next week - or to fix a private call.
Loake Posted 30 July 2006 Posted 30 July 2006 love 'em, been trying to organise going to one for a few... months now(almost a year), never seem to get round to it though.
Cobbo Posted 30 July 2006 Posted 30 July 2006 They make me sick. All those people getting up so early and converging on a poor innocent field.

There's always loads of people whenever I go, especially if the weather is good. Ebay is great, but it ain't the same if you're not getting elbowed outta the way by some dotty old wifey.......hang that's probably me
