Ridsdale handed Leeds 'life ban'

Cardiff City deputy chairman Peter Ridsdale says he has been banned for life from Leeds United's Elland Road.

The former Leeds chairman claims he was thrown out of the Elland Road boardroom by United owner Ken Bates after celebrating Cardiff's 1-0 win.

"I was told that I was no longer welcome at Elland Road today or any time in the future," said Ridsdale.

Bates has denied the claims, saying: "It's a pack of lies, but I'm sure he (Ridsdale) needs the attention."

Ridsdale resigned in acrimonious circumstances as Leeds chairman in 2003 after six years in charge.

I asked what I had done and Ken (Bates) said he didn't like my behaviour during the game

The club ran up debts of over £100m between 2000 and 2003 under Ridsdale and former directors Allan Leighton, Stephen Harrison and Richard North.

Before the match, Bates made comments which suggested he clearly blames Ridsdale's reign at Elland Road for Leeds' on-going financial problems.

"We'll have to deal with the problems caused by previous regimes, problems that were out of our control." said Bates.

And when Bates returned to the boardroom with the other directors and their guests at the end of Saturday's game, he allegedly informed Ridsdale he was no longer welcome at his former club.

Ridsdale told the Wales on Sunday: "I asked what I had done and Ken (Bates) said he didn't like my behaviour during the game.

"At that point, I shook Ken's hand, wished him all the best for the season and left."

Never really liked Bates but people like Ridsdale should be banned for life from having any involvement in the running of a football club!!! can't believe he had the cheek to ask what he had done wrong!!!!

Both as bad as each other.

Agreed. They're both attention-seeking scumbags.

Would the game really miss either of them?

Can imagine Hannibal Smith off the A-Team saying that!
