Akinbiyi eyes end to goal drought

Stoke striker Ade Akinbiyi is bidding to end his goal drought when he returns from a one-game suspension against Watford on Saturday.

The 30-year-old last scored in September in the 2-2 draw with Burnley but is confident that will change.

He told Stoke's official website: "I always seem to manage to score at Vicarage Road and remember the two I scored last season.

"Hopefully I can get my goalscoring back on track there."

Akinbiyi admitted it was frustrating to watch the 1-0 defeat to Sunderland from the stands.

"But I'm focused on hopefully returning for the Watford game," he said.

Had to laugh to myself after reading this.

I've heard the Stoke fans are getting a bit restless with him. :bounce:

lol and to think Peter T***** made us spend £5 mil on him at the time...

it must have been hilarious stuff for the world outside LCFC,

but the embarassment of seing the price tag and name in the LCFC record books is really tragic :(

Hope he does prove a hit for Stoke though, it's certainly not for a lack of effort from his part!

I loved looking at the scoring charts in CM03/04, where Ade usually ended as topscorer in the Championship lol

He is technically a very poor player, but tends to compensate with his immense power and (not so immense) pace. He's useful at this level, and can be more than a handful if on form. He is very much a confidence player, an extremely poor mans version of Emile Heskey.

I actually think he'd be a better player, well more agile if he wasn't so muscle bound, it's just not right for a footballer to be like that. Heskey's initial improvement after he joined Liverpool was, I believe mostly downto the fact that he lost quite a bit of weight.

Ash - you'll realise that the world isn't as meritocratic as people have us believe. A lot of success is down to luck and being in the right place at the right time. Ade certainly had more than his fair share in that respect.
