lookwhaticando Posted 8 September 2006 Posted 8 September 2006 So my presence has been requested to help run the final day of the sale - they need me to process invoices and take customer's for a ride (financially speaking). That's a lovely thought - I get paid quite nicely to do very little. But I start work at 10am... or 3pm UK time... guess what I miss? Oh yeah, the footy. Again. Bastards. Being in the company of a most delightful young woman who acts as receptionist at the store is quite a perk, but not enough to compensate for my lack of football first thing on a saturday morning. Shame. I think all businesses, even in the recreational areas of life (decorating, gardening, etc) should not commence until midday on Saturday, to give me plenty of time to get my footballing fix. And that's my rant done. I thank you. So apologies, Suffolk, seems I can't make it afterall. Our date is thus, cancelled.
DanTheFoxBhoy Posted 8 September 2006 Posted 8 September 2006 Weekend work is bollocks. I used to work as a bouncer which meant that when everyone else was going out I was going to work. As you say buddy, being in the company of delightful young females was nothing to complain about, but it was crap when it encroached on the things I wanted to do! Edit: Why are you 5 hours behind everyone else? Are you stuck in a time warp, or are you indeed not in Castle Donington as we speak?
Guest Posted 8 September 2006 Posted 8 September 2006 To be fair, I hate working Monday to Friday just as much.
Simon Posted 8 September 2006 Posted 8 September 2006 oh tell me why? Oh dear! I work in retail currently so have to work a certain number of sats and suns every month which means limited football time for me- but I've quit (my last day is next sat). Now I can watch football every week!

Yeh but at least you get the chance to kick the living daylights out of any random drunk of your choice ..........and down here for some reason even the ugliest of bouncers get laid at the end of the night!

Ottawa definitely is, though. Castle Donnington = my home town. Ottawa, Canada = where I currently live.
andrewsnaith Posted 8 September 2006 Posted 8 September 2006 Just jack it in mate and get another job! There's no point in working in a job if you don't enjoy and it effects your social life (i've already left 2 for the same reason in the last year!). Don't let your heart and passion for life be ruled by a job it's the worst thing you can ever do. If your worried that if you jack it in you wont find another job (even though im sure you could in that type of role) then consider starting your own business mate which is what I'm doing. Read this your life will never (or at least shouldnt) be the same http://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/2006/07/1...ever-get-a-job/

But then I'd already reached my peak of loathing for self-aggrandising American ****wits who make money selling self-improvement shite.
cisono Posted 8 September 2006 Posted 8 September 2006 I hate working Friday nights but especially Sundays

Not all things written by yanks are bullshit. Makes complete sense to me to be honest. I'm hoping your not just too far gone and still can be saved from your master!

Hmm I do run my own business, which means I work Friday nights. Something went wrong somewhere, obviously...

andrewsnaith Posted 9 September 2006 Posted 9 September 2006 Hmm I do run my own business, which means I work Friday nights. Something went wrong somewhere, obviously... Yeah but that is your choice?! If is your own business you can do what you want (although that will inevitably lead to different levels of success).
cisono Posted 9 September 2006 Posted 9 September 2006 Yeah but that is your choice?! If is your own business you can do what you want (although that will inevitably lead to different levels of success). It is partly my choice, meaning I could choose not to work on Fridays but my income levels would suffer. However, it still feels miles better than having no choice.
andrewsnaith Posted 9 September 2006 Posted 9 September 2006 Yeah thats what i mean matey, you have a choice wether to or not (but because it is good for your business you decide to work by choice).
lookwhaticando Posted 9 September 2006 Author Posted 9 September 2006 Seems I didn't miss all that much. Not read much about the WBA game, but I hear we threw it away late on. And my lecture, broadcast on TV - due to start 30 minutes before I finished work, wasn't actually being brodcast this week anyway! So all in all, not a wholly unpleasant day. The fine receptionist was on top form too, she's the reason I keep working there. And the money, of course. And all the staff love me for being so ****ing good at what I do. It's pretty good for the ol' confidence, having members of staff saying "Thanks a lot, you've been awesome" every 2 minutes. I'm home, ready to eat, and feelin' pretty friggin' good about myself.
cisono Posted 9 September 2006 Posted 9 September 2006 ... I'm home, ready to eat, and feelin' pretty friggin' good about myself. You do sound pretty... "chirpy" today!
