lcfc_jme Posted 14 September 2006 Posted 14 September 2006 just put this on again on sky +, as liverpool are my 2nd team it cheers me up a hell of a lot and i dont have any of the city finals dvds. what a programme, what a game, what a comeback. "like a movie storyline" - DJ Spoony I heard that DJ Spoony actually knows nothing about football and has only ever been to 6 or 7 Liverpool games in his life !! Still though, if you're referring to the Champions League Final, Liverpool were very very fortunate, yet brilliant at the same time to come back and win it. Gerrard was in inspired form throughout, Carragher was immense and Dudek's save in extra-time was pure genius. Never ever happen again though, none of it
SystonFox Posted 14 September 2006 Author Posted 14 September 2006 i love leicester just as much as the next "loyal supporter" but my dads been a liverpool fan all his life, my 1st game was cov vs liverpool at highfield road and ive been brought up idolising the likes of rush, fowler, owen etc. i just have it in me that i like them, enjoy watching them and love seeing them win. untill they play leicester.
lcfc_jme Posted 14 September 2006 Posted 14 September 2006 As in if City aren't in the Premiership, you'd like to see Liverpool possibly win it. And if City are in the Prem, you want to see them do just a bit worse than City??

It'll take a while to get a better final than that one, not sure if it'll be done any time this century
SystonFox Posted 14 September 2006 Author Posted 14 September 2006 the funny thing about this programme is, ac milan have just scored there 2nd (crespos 1st) and it shows italians in milan screaming and jumping round, oh how they felt 2 hours later.
lcfc_jme Posted 14 September 2006 Posted 14 September 2006 yeah spot on, now we are nowhere close i'd like liverpool to win all compotitions city arent in untill we get knocked out, but if we met them home or away in the f.a cup id be 100% leicester. Thought that's what you were getting at. Can see your logic as well. Glad to hear you'd be 100% Leicester if we met them as well, however many people would question your loyalties and would be sceptical of you...
SystonFox Posted 14 September 2006 Author Posted 14 September 2006 alot of people say they have 2nd teams but dont really follow t he other side, i like to keep track of liverpool and watch them as much as i can. a friend at work is a man utd fan (because they were good) but also a cardiff city fan cos he was born in cardiff, he follows both teams just as much and cares just as much for both teams. whats his situation then?
lcfc_jme Posted 14 September 2006 Posted 14 September 2006 Not too sure. I'd say he was a supporter of whoever he checks the results for first and follows more passionately
Rincewind Posted 14 September 2006 Posted 14 September 2006 I grew up in a time when supporting a team did not have to mean you beilieved them being world beaters despitem being near the bottom of the second major League. Teams like Man Utd, Spurs Chelsea etc were admired by all football fans because they only saw highlights and those highlights featured the likes of Charlto, Greaves Best Crerrand Law and many more. They were exciting players playing for exciting teams. Nowadays if Man Utd were to beat City 5-0 there would be some Leicester fans who would say they were lucky or the ref was on their side and would refuse to acknowledge that the better team won because of their loyalty for one team. I support Leicester and would like them to do well, but I am also a football fan and I admire many sides that City will never match in my lifetime. I hope I am wrong though. In some respect being nuetral enables you to enjoy a game more.
lcfc_jme Posted 14 September 2006 Posted 14 September 2006 I'll never praise a side for beating City, only criticise City for being beaten by any side. In terms of matches when City aren't involved, the team which plays the most absorbing and entertaining football is the team deserving of the points and the plaudits from anybody connected with football, including loyal City fans (like the Arsenal side that were devoted to all-out attack and absolutely annihilated teams home and away).

Same boat as me. Same two teams too I watched that Final live because it was Liverpool. It was a real rollercoaster, that one. Funny, the two greatest cup finals I've witnessed both involved Liverpool - That Champions League and last season's FA Cup. I watch as much Permiership/FA cup as possible (in fact, I paid $25 or about 12 quid to watch last season's FA cup because it pit my 2nd team, Liverpool, against my dad's preferred team West Ham) What games. Both have established Gerrard as the best England midfielder for me - he's far more inspirational than Fat Frank.

syston_fox Posted 14 September 2006 Posted 14 September 2006 Never understood this second team thing... One team for me only. My beloved Leicester City I can understand it if theres a family connection and you've been brought up hearing all about that team but for me there is only the one team! I can appreciate other teams and enjoy watching them play but I cant say I check for anyones results in particular. Used to love seeing Arsenal in action when they were at the peak of their unbeaten run and playing some beautiful stuff and at the moment i'll always watch Liverpool when I can but thats mainly to see Stevie G in action!
Janx Posted 15 September 2006 Posted 15 September 2006 Liverpool are my second team also, half my Dads uncles and Aunties are scousers and when I was a nipper I used to be totally in awe of that part of the family, they were all brilliant, and one of my great Aunts lived next door to Phil Thompson's mum, it wasnt that I loved the club, but always gave me a soft spot for them, and I still look for the results now, and I supoose if they were on the gogglebox, I would prefer them to win than the oppo, unless it was City of course! I fell completely out of love with them in the Souness management era, what a monster he created, systematically changing them from football to thuggery! what he did wrecked the team for about 10 years!
