Scow Posted 10 December 2004 Posted 10 December 2004 Paul Brooker returns to the Walkers Stadium tomorrow with a point to prove.The 28-year-old winger comes back to Leicester City for the first time since his free transfer to Reading in July after a season of disappointment in the East Midlands. Former boss Micky Adams brought Brooker to Leicester having previously worked with him at Fulham and Brighton, but he made only six appearances during City's ill-fated Premiership campaign. He was even sent out on loan to the Royals for two months after Christmas. "It was a frustrating time for me because I never really got to establish myself in the side," said Brooker. "I was under no illusions and knew that I had been brought in as a back-up player and as a result wouldn't be playing every week. "I bided my time but things just didn't work out and I jumped at the chance when Reading came in for me on a permanent basis. "I never really got to show the Leicester fans what I could do but, hopefully, I will be given the chance tomorrow to prove a point." Brooker committed himself to Reading for two years in the summer and is enjoying life under manager Steve Coppell. "I have a lot of time and respect for Steve Coppell and know what he is all about, having worked under him for a year at Brighton," said Brooker. He has made 16 appearances for the high-flying Royals, mainly on the left wing, but has struggled to command a regular starting spot since picking up a groin injury in October. "The manager isn't one to change the side when results are going in our favour," he added. "We are playing some good football at the moment and are more than capable of getting into the play-offs." But Brooker knows that his side will be in for a tough test today. He said: "I keep a close eye on City's results and unfolding events and, while they haven't fired on all cylinders so far they are still, in my opinion, one of the fancied teams for promotion. "I don't know a lot about the new manager but he has a good track record and am certain he will turn the club's fortunes around." Link - Blue Army He wants to prove a point to us. Please, i would hate to see makin at right mid, or brooker at defender right. You cannot compare them

It's unnecessary and undermines anything constructive you may have to say. And as MON says, Brooker and Makin play different positions - hence your analogy with Henry and Van Nistelrooy doesn't work. Maybe Brooker never got a chance to prove himself in the 1st team cos he wasn't good enough - the fact that he did nothing when he did get his rare chances exemplifies this.
