Scow Posted 14 December 2004 Posted 14 December 2004 Does anyone think dropping Nalis would help us? I know he's scored goals recently, and has had some class games for us this season, but there are far too many times where he looks off the pace and gives the ball away too cheaply. I like Nalis, but I think he's holding us back in the way we want to play. I don't think he's neither a ball winner or a creator. He can spray some lovely passes, but he can play some shocking one's too. As we're having problems scoring goals and supplying the strikers, maybe it's a time for a fresh approach? Gudjonsson doesn't seem to be able to cut it, his passing is woeful generally and puts us on the back foot. As pinpointed in another thread, our main problem revoles around the lack of pace and energy in the side. We could combat this by playing Dawson and Williams in the centre, with Gillespie and Tiatto on the wings. That midfield 4 would be excellent, a mixture of youth and experience, energy, creatvity, determination, passion and graft.
Mark Posted 14 December 2004 Posted 14 December 2004 It's not controversial if you're open to new ideas I'd love to see Williams and Dawson in the middle, if not, then i'd go for Nalis and Dawson cause he's a great deal better than Joey and Gemmill at the moment. Gillespie Williams Dawson Tiatto, please.
Teeno Posted 14 December 2004 Posted 14 December 2004 I find it baffeling that you could even suggest droping our best player and top goalscorer. Scowy hang your head in shame

Scowy hang your head in shame 46545[/snapback] His passing has been dreadful recently, but he's no worse than Gemmill and Joey. Someone has to change in the middle, it's horrible at the minute.

For some reason aswell Nalis isn't half as good at home as he is away. 4 out of his 5 goals have been away. What about Nalis and Dawson, Williams has hardly set the world alight.
davieG Posted 14 December 2004 Posted 14 December 2004 I think the problem is the holding midfielder be it Gemmil or Joey, that's probably why both Nalis and Williams under perform. I'd really like to see either Dawson and Nalis or Dawson and Williams. Given the choice I'd probably go for D & N as the safer of the two but only because I've yet to see Williams have an effective full 90 minutes, admittedly not always his fault.
Scow Posted 14 December 2004 Author Posted 14 December 2004 Nalis and Dawson would be fine, I wouldn't mind that. At least Nalis would have some energy alongside him. I think part of the problem with Nalis is that he's had to play with Gemmill recently, who offers nothing going forward. He's also had to do a lot of the legwork too, and often get's exposed because he's trying to do to much. However, I just feel that now is the time for Williams and Dawson to step in and show what they can do. I honestly feel those two would be an ideal partnership. Nalis and Gemmill will be gone soon, so I don't see the reason to hold back someone like Dawson who deserves his chance.
emmalcfc Posted 14 December 2004 Posted 14 December 2004 It is time for Dawson and Williams to get a chance playing next to each other. Their link up play in the reserves was excellent. Don't see any reason why they can't bring that into the team on Friday
Anish Posted 14 December 2004 Posted 14 December 2004 I wouldn't drop Nalis because of his genereal performances this season - but I can see where you're coming from. We do need a lot more creativity and energy in midfield, along with the usual steel and resilience - all of which we lack at the moment. If anything changes I would prefer to see Nalis alongside Dawson, with Williams waiting in the wings. Gudjonsson and Gemmill have been appalling so far and they should be the ones straight out, not Nalis.
Guest Daniel Posted 14 December 2004 Posted 14 December 2004 I agree about his passing being dreadful, but we need goals and when he gets the ball outside the area people get excited, feel a goal is coming, i know it doesnt happen but he brings abit of excitement in there and is always thinking, definatly needs to sort his passing out. Wouldnt drop him.
Guest Posted 14 December 2004 Posted 14 December 2004 The whole midfield was lacking against Reading. There have been other times this season when lack of creativity, energy, flair and tenacity have let us down, and probably one of the reasons why the forwards have been underperforming.
