cisono Posted 4 November 2006 Posted 4 November 2006 Last time I was back home, I taught my mum how to send/receive email. I got her a googlemail account and now she apparently happily emails me... The question is... should I introduce her to instant messaging or not? I am worried that that will result in her a) spending too much time online (she is on dial-up) b) contacting me too often c) being confused as to what the hell this IM is about Anyone else tried IM with their parents? Was it a good or bad idea?
lookwhaticando Posted 4 November 2006 Posted 4 November 2006 a) and b) concerns outweigh any possible pros... don't do it.

The question is... should I introduce her to instant messaging or not? I am worried that that will result in her a) spending too much time online (she is on dial-up) I presume she's paying for it. b) contacting me too often You don't have to reply c) being confused as to what the hell this IM is about If she's confused the bill could be astronomical or zero, she won't be able to bother you. Anyone else tried IM with their parents? Was it a good or bad idea? She might find someone else to bother and forget about you all together.

Wils Posted 5 November 2006 Posted 5 November 2006 My mam has just about figured out texting, not sure shes ready for IM. Could be a disaster.
lookwhaticando Posted 5 November 2006 Posted 5 November 2006 My mum knows IM - not bad considering just 6 or 7 years ago she didn't even know how to turn a computer on. The funny/sad thing about it is, I'm her eldest son, she had my MSN address, but she had me blocked. In fact, she blocked me and even deleted me from her contact list. :pinch:

lookwhaticando Posted 5 November 2006 Posted 5 November 2006 Does this happen to you very often with your contacts? That is totally, totally unrelated.
cisono Posted 5 November 2006 Author Posted 5 November 2006 That is totally, totally unrelated. And with blonde Swedish girls too?
lookwhaticando Posted 5 November 2006 Posted 5 November 2006 And with blonde Swedish girls too? The Swedes won't be able to resist me... ... just as soon as I can get one of their MSN addresses.
cisono Posted 5 November 2006 Author Posted 5 November 2006 The Swedes won't be able to resist me... ... just as soon as I can get one of their MSN addresses. What does it take to get those? 10 dates?
lookwhaticando Posted 6 November 2006 Posted 6 November 2006 What does it take to get those? 10 dates? 12 I'm told.

Katy Posted 6 November 2006 Posted 6 November 2006 Parents + Technology = Disaster Hell yeah! My Mum is a total nightmare!
Jonbluefox9 Posted 6 November 2006 Posted 6 November 2006 It's a bad idea to teach your parents anything to do with computers or technology in general in my opinion.
