cisono Posted 6 November 2006 Author Posted 6 November 2006 It's a bad idea to teach your parents anything to do with computers or technology in general in my opinion. I have a feeling that may be the case, hence I thought I'd ask here However, my mum was soooo impressed when she managed to send her first email... that I would like to see a bit more of that expression on her face
Rincewind Posted 6 November 2006 Posted 6 November 2006 I'm lucky my parents are not into anything post 1990
lcfc_jme Posted 6 November 2006 Posted 6 November 2006 Wouldn't be a complete disaster if she actually had a life outside of the house. Me mum can use MSN and stuff, but she doesn't feel the need to be on it every day, infact I don't even think she checks it every week ... Go for it cis

Go for it cis OK, so I'll give her one year to get used to email. Then, when I visit next year, I will introduce her to IM. Hopefully, this won't lead to an internet romance and her marrying some dodgy internet man

You never know, she might find an IM virgin, much like herself, and it'd be a match made in heaven. Or she might end up talking to someone dodgy... ... like TPH.

I used to dread my parents even going on the PC but now I've worked out how to stop records being kept of my internet browsing I'm not so bothered.

Fez of Mahrez Posted 6 November 2006 Posted 6 November 2006 It's up to you at the end of the day. I used to dread my parents even going on the PC but now I've worked out how to stop records being kept of my internet browsing I'm not so bothered. That's what you think, son. Do some work.
The People's Hero Posted 7 November 2006 Posted 7 November 2006 cisono, introducing the mother to IM is now officially wrong, her ending up with somebody like TPH is too serious and risky, I wouldn't wish that on anybody's mother Leave her to stick to email and do NOT leak her email address anywhere, you never know who's lurking these forums What exactly are you trying to say? I'm a respectable young man!
Rincewind Posted 7 November 2006 Posted 7 November 2006 Mums think PC's are a waste of time. They think people spend too much time on them, they make your eyes go bad and give you arthritis in your typing finger. Rather than Googling they believe they can find all the information they want over ther garden fence or at the checkout down at the local supermarket. Older dads see no point in emails. If they want to send a message to somebody they ask their wife to write a letter. Also they can rely on the women of the family to keep them informed of local events and the 6.oclock news for world events.
lcfc_jme Posted 7 November 2006 Posted 7 November 2006 What exactly are you trying to say? I'm a respectable young man! You have a very perverse mind so I'm led to believe And besides, it was lwicd who first accused you of having something to hide.... Is that a common problem amongst technophobic parents? lcfc_jme Posted 7 November 2006 Posted 7 November 2006 btw TPH, posts such as "I choose Daz because it removes wan kstains" are not going to help your reputation as a "respectable young man" develop
The People's Hero Posted 7 November 2006 Posted 7 November 2006 I'll erm.. bear that in mind next time I'm worrying about what a load of people off the internet think of me!
lcfc_jme Posted 7 November 2006 Posted 7 November 2006 I'll erm.. bear that in mind next time I'm worrying about what a load of people off the internet think of me! can't say fairer than that I guess.. Just don't protest your innocence or try to clear your name on here in future
