MrsJohnMurphy Posted 18 November 2006 Posted 18 November 2006 the one album i should own by...... 1. Tom Waits 2. Neil Young Where do i start with them? They have such a large back catalogue, i want to make my first purchase a wise one. Also can anyone recommend a decent jazz (nice!) album? I have Miles Davis' Kind of Blue which i love. What else should in be looking for?
The People's Hero Posted 18 November 2006 Posted 18 November 2006 http://www.play.com/Music/CD/4-/502143/Gre...ts/Product.html is a good place to start. It's the usual 'greatest' hits collective. With free DVD. Tenner delivered. That's a good place to start, then when you've identified which tracks you like best, I'd buy the albums from around the same time as that track was recorded. Young is like a lot of artists in that the albums do differ a fair amount. My personal favourite is... http://www.play.com/Music/CD/PROD/3-/13780...sh/Product.html Not sure what popular opinion/consensus is on this. But that's the Neil Young album I seem to go back to time and again..... Hope that helps mate. Alternatively, get me on msn at some point and we might be able to save you some money.
OBO Posted 18 November 2006 Posted 18 November 2006 The first Tom Waits album I bought was Rain Dogs, I reckon it's a pretty good place to start It's got a good mix of styles on it, the more ballad-y stuff typical of the earlier records and the more jazzy ecclectic stuff he moved on to. That's probably over-simplifying his back-catalogue a bit, but that's the general picture I'd say! But yeah, Rain Dogs is a great record.
