MADLEVEIN Posted 27 December 2004 Posted 27 December 2004 what can we realisticly achieve in the transfer window ?? i can see a lot of fans being dissapointed due to our severe lack of cash, no one is going to shell out for any of our players, we cannot slash the wage bill and if by some huge miracle we bring in a few players how long will it take for them to settle in to the side ? a list of players i would keep from current squad would be taylor ..better than fatty keown..vast experience stearman..great prospect stewart...most improved player nalis..would be better in a stronger midfield gillespie..plaing best football in ages dublin..up front proved at forest how vital we need a ball winner in attack connors..100% player will also benefit from stronger midfield wright..pacey strong just what we need. tiatto..goes without saying the ones who have question marks are makin.. very on/off gudjonnsonas above heath..needs to improve his fitness canero..looked good but injuries all the time the no no's scowy..crap benji..even crapper morris..what has he done ? gemmill blake.. useless lazy bum these are my opinions and i believe we need to stay in this league for two or three years to build a stronger younger squad
MON Posted 27 December 2004 Posted 27 December 2004 We need to get rid of enough players this year. And no we CANNOT stay in this league beyond next season. Parachute payments, falling attendances etc. CL should be given until the end of the season to proove himself. If he doesnt atleast get us into the top half or if our performances do not improve I will begin to question him. Giillespie left wing? Benjamin our right winger. The players I want to keep are: Walker-Basically a quality keeper Canero-Young, has potential. Tiatto Gillespie-Give him a new contract now. Stewart Williams- needs a run in the side. Stearman Connoly-Needs better supply. Joey Gudjonson-getting better Wright morris Dawson All the above players are not too old and have decent potential. They will give us a good nucles to the side. Maybe's are: Keown-Too injury prone? Heath-Good backup? Nalis-age catching up with him? Dublin-as above Makin-Good backup? Taylor-Good if walker goes? Scowy-only if he can proove he can score goals, which he hasnt as yet. Will have to accept a greatly reduced contract. Dabizaz- on/off too many times Definite get rids are: Gemmil (2k a week?) Elliot (32k a week?) Benjamin (18k a week?) Wilcox (4k a week?) Blake (4 k a week?) Pressman 3k a week?) Doing the above will save alot of money on the wage bill, as will getting rid of scowy. Old players will alsobe gone. Then the players we have left can give us a side of: gk: Walker/Taylor dr: Canero Dc:Stearman DC DL: Stewart MR: Gillespie/New wnger ML: Tiatto MC: Willaims MC: new tough tackling midfielder/Dawson Fc: Connoly Fc: New striker. Not a bad side. I think. We can build a team for a long time with this squad. And we need a couple of new strikers, A defensive midfielder a couple of new speedy strong centre backs. And a creative midfielder. As well as a new right winger and left winger. that is 7 players. Not journey men, good young players. And we can afford to spend in the summer, more then we did this season. Firstly we should believe that CL is the right person to do this job. Do you lot think he is? I have yet to be prooved.
Craig Posted 27 December 2004 Posted 27 December 2004 CL should be given until the end of the season CL should be given till the end of NEXT season, it's impossible for him with this bunch of players you idiot. And also, it's Proved, not "Prooved"

Do you realise the club will be in a compelete mess if we dont go back up by the end of next season.

He obviously needs to bring in some of his own players (players who will give a shit).

The likes of Dublin, Keown, Stewart, Connoly, Williams, Nalis, Joey gudjohnsan, Gillespie. Think about it>>>>>.

We are still only 9 points of the play offs.

This leagues about present grit and determination, not what players past records have to show, and unfortunately many of our players lack that.
MON Posted 27 December 2004 Posted 27 December 2004 Isnt it up to the manager to install abit of Grit as well. to do with motivation.
Craig Posted 27 December 2004 Posted 27 December 2004 Isnt it up to the manager to install abit of Grit as well. to do with motivation. 49735[/snapback] Yes, but i can't think of many players at this club that do have that grit. Tiatto, Gudjonsson, Connolly - Thats about it.

Craig Posted 27 December 2004 Posted 27 December 2004 Nalis is not gritty, Stewart isn't, Walkers injured Stearman isn't yet, he's too lightweight, but looked quite able at right back, so i'd play him there. Dawson is, and im sure he'll get his chance soon
Mark Posted 27 December 2004 Posted 27 December 2004 Levein should be given to the end of this season? Sort yourself out "MON". Instant success does not happen. Especially with a team Micky Adams put together and that he is currently trying to work with. He needs to bring Dawson in for Sheffield United though, if he play's Gemmill then i worry about the types of player he'll go for in January.

IE: with the squad of players we have we should manage a respectable position in the Championship.

They may be household names, but if you don't have any pace, movement or passion in the team, you're getting nowhere. Given until the end of the season you're having a laugh.
davieG Posted 27 December 2004 Posted 27 December 2004 The truth is that individually most of the players we have could hold their own in any Championship team. The problem we have is that collectively they do not have all the main ingredients that make up a balanced and adaptable team. There are a number of areas of weakness of which pace is right there at the top of the list. We do not have it inthe defence, we do not have it in the middle or the wings and we do not have it up front. Any pacy defender, midfielder, or forward playing with any current team that CL could put out would make the current team significantly better. Without this vital ingredient CL has his hands tied. It doesn't matter what team he puts out, what team we suggest it will never achieve any consistency with out this and other ingredients.. Now Dawson, Stearman, Porter et al might make a difference, I can't judge as I've not seen enough of them playing at championship level but in the circumstances I believe that one or more of them should now be given the chance.
