Yesterdays Referee

I'm not defending Gillespie, but yesterdays referee was such an appalling homer that he was just waiting for the chance to give them the extra man they didn't need.Whilst we were truly awful and lacked everthing a good side requires,you could see the utter frustration the w*nker caused,particularly to Gudjonsson who kept getting kicked and never got anything.

Does anyone remember the last time we had that ref? Well it was the Portsmouth game at the Walkers Stadium when Trev gave us the lead but Taylor scored that long ranger.

"What a great display of 'common sense' refereeing by Mike Pike. Loads of personal battles going on all over the pitch. Plenty of niggly tackles, little pulls, little pushes, and yet he allowed the game to flow and helped produced a great end to end game with plenty of good football to watch. Punished the 3 tackles that needed to be done to stop anything getting out of hand, but allowed everything else to go on - showing consistancy to both sides. My kind of ref."

"Does the FA have representitives at the games, Mr Pike will certainly hope not. I think leicesters first free kick was given at 80 mins?? Even though they were kicked, hacked, pulled and pushed. But if any leicester player happened to sneeze slightly, it was a certain free kick. Come on FA what have Leicester City deserved for you to be treating them like this?

Lets hope Mr Pike has a nice ride back to his home in Portsmouth!"

"Leicester fans seem unused to getting a bit of their own medicine from visiting sides, but I still think Pike was poor, albeit even-handedly. Seemed genuinely unaware of much of what both sides were up to, had no assistance from his assistants, and was lucky to get to 90 mins with 11 a side and no punch-ups. When we play next season one or two of the Mary Poppins refs on the Prem list would have a 7-a-side if it is that kind of game. It was a cracking game, but Pike went too far beyond letting the game flow, into being on the edge of an uncontrollable scrap."

"The referee was aporling he should never referee a pompey game again because i feel sorry for the opposition this referee had something for portsmouth and he gave all decisions portmouth way which was frustating as leicester were the home team please DO NOT EVER let him come to the walkers stadium again or i have pitty for him."

"The ref was extremly poor some of his calls were applauling, he seemed to think that we were playing a game of rugby as any major physical contact was not a foul, the foul count was 23 to the foxes and 9 to pompey,"

"The second half performance of Mr Pike showed how a game can disintegrate with poor refereeing. He allowed periods of play to turn into a series of minor fouls, and randomly gave free kicks (mainly to pompey). Made you realise what a good ref does so well. Keep up with play and an eye on clashes between players - Pike was often not watching or oblivious to fouls that occured. He was also over leniant in not booking players for persistent infringement. A ref who should stay in lower leagues at best."

"Mr Pike had an off day! As an example Walker caught a ball clearly before it was over the line - Pike gave a corner (at the time I automatically thought "surely he hasn't given a free-kick for a pass-back" because it wasn't even close to over the line so a corner never crossed my mind). Then the play went up the other end, Hislop made a good save from Dickov and Pompey got a goal-kick! Scowcroft could do no right for Mr Pike- in the second half every single contested ball in the air for him was either won by Pompey or a foul was given to them - we all know that those things are 50 -50 in the long term and it did APPEAR as though Scowfront was climbed all over on a number of occasions. When Merson was pushed they were given a foul, when Izzet was pushed we weren't. But as a City fan I have to admit that he gave us some fouls when we had fouled first - pretty incredible I know given the silly foul count in the game in favour of Pompey. He just didn't seem to get the balance right - the classic example was our goal. He should surely have whistled before it for the blatant hand-ball - he'll claim he gave advantage - I claim he totally missed it..."

"I'm not sure what was going through the ref's mind throughout the game. On the one hand he seemed to want the game flow (when a leicester player was bundled over), however he did blow up an unbelievable amount of times in favour of pompey! i think he was watching a different game to the 31700 other people, although he did have a supporting sidekick in the East stand linesman. Definitely the worst display of refereeing i've seen this season. It makes you wonder what Redknapp does with the £300000 he received from selling Rio Ferdinand whilst at West Ham!!!"

"This was one of worst referees I have seen for a very long time, I'm obviously biased towards LCFC but it's very difficult to see how this Ref was not overwelmingly biased towards Portsmouth. We all appreciate that its not an easy job, but this Ref's display was awful. - Sorry."

"The inconsistencies in Mr Pikes performance had the home crowd incensed in the second half. This was a competitive and physical game but not dirty, and should not have been difficult to control. However the constant pressure exerted on the referee by Merson in particular seemed to have a big effect, and as the game wore on Leicester were punished repeatedly for any (apparent) physical contact whilst Portsmouth were allowed to get away with pretty much anything they liked. Mr Pike generally seemed to be close to the play, which made his inconsistency even harder to understand. A truly dreadful performance!"

"I think that Mr Pike was without a doubt the worst referee that we have seen at the walkers stadium this season. he ws awful and never gave us anything in the secong half. He must have known that we are most dangerous from set pieces so perhaps he's a sheffield united fan who wanted to make sure we didnt beat portsmouth to make the gap even larger! with a fair referee i think that city would have ran out to be winners."

"We've seem some poor refereeing at the Walker's stadium this season but Mr Pike is taking the accolades so far. In a hard fought top of table clash, particularly noticeable in the second half, there was many blatant fouls against the boys in blue that weren't given yet when any City player went near a powderpuff in white he gave them a freekick. I hope we never have this ref again, I've never known a ref to be so disliked by our fans since Mike reed in that Chelsea cup game"

"Oh dear. Why can't referee's leave their blurred perceptions of teams to themselves instead of assuming theb worst of players? 'Spiky' Mike Pike was very very poor. Just because Leicester have some big lads, does not make them cheats. Portsmouth were the latest team to take advantage of another poor refereeing display. The only two half decent refs we have had were against Bradford (home) and walsall (away) and look at the scores 4-0 and 4-1."

"The ref was totally inconsistant. For a spell in the second half the ref seemed to either miss or ignore clear fouls against Leicester players- Muzzy Izzet was a victim of a couple and Callum Davidson to name but 2. He then gave free kicks for the most incocuous of challenges. He also missed a clear booking for Tim Sherwood for a very late tackle on Muzzy but booked Jamie Scowcroft for the same thing! I don't usually complain about refs as i appreciate the toughness of the job, but this is the worst performance i have ever witnessed!"

"How Mr Pike kept his objectivity amidst the tirades from the home fans is amazing. Every decision he gave (90% correct) was greeted as if he'd personally walked up to Muzzy Izzet and chopped his legs off.

I didn't think he was that bad really - it's easy to blame refs cos it's the fashionable thing to do. I thought he did ok and can't really be blamed. Every ref makes little mistakes every game, it's part and parcel of football.

Mike Pike is a terrible referee

I decided to make an appearance at the Division 3 play-off semi-final 2nd Leg last season between Lincoln City and Huddersfield Town.

Lincoln were 2-0, and 3-2 up on Aggregate, when Andy Booth dived in the Lincoln area.

The referee, one Mr Pike, waved play on, and signalled a goalkick when the ball went out.

He was a few yards away, and have a perfect view of the incident.

The linesman however, over 70 yards away with players in between him and the incident, signalled a penalty.

So what does Pikey do?

CHANGES HIS MIND AND GIVES THE PENALTY EVEN THOUGH HE WAS OVER 7 TIMES CLOSER WITH A BETTER VIEW AND THOUGHT IT WASN'T A PENALTY!!

Huddersfield scored, and then got it back to 2-2, and won 4-3 on Aggregate.

Bastard.
