Leonisco Posted 5 December 2006 Posted 5 December 2006 BBC to show Liverpool v Arsenal The plum tie of the FA Cup third round between holders Liverpool and Arsenal will be shown live on BBC One on Saturday, 6 January. The match, which is being played at Anfield, kicks off at 1715 GMT. Championship side Norwich's trip to Conference team Tamworth will also be screened live at 1230 the same day. The BBC's final live match of the third round will be the all-Premiership tie between Manchester United and Aston Villa at 1230 on Sunday, 7 December. Link How shit is that line-up? The whole point of televised 3rd round ties is to show a smaller club at home to a Premiership club. Overall there are seven such ties in this year's draw: Mansfield/Doncaster v Bolton Leicester v Fulham Sheff Wed v Man City Salisbury/Nottm For v Charlton Cardiff v Tottenham Hull v Middlesbrough Birmingham v Newcastle ...and not one of them is being shown. WTF? Instead they've gone for 2 all premiership ties, the kind of game we can watch any time on MOTD, and a Championship club against a non-league club. Liverpool v Arsenal I've got no complaints about - that one should be a cracker. Tamworth v Norwich - bit of a surprise to show a game with no Prem club, not really complaining but they definitely could've picked a better one. However, Man Utd v Villa just takes the biscuit. WHAT IS THE POINT IN SHOWING THIS? Why are they showing the big clubs now - there will be plenty of time to show them in the later rounds when there are hardly any small clubs left. The BBC, in their infinite wisdom, constantly harp on about "the magic of the Cup" - so why are they showing a game that has absolutely no romance whatsoever? It's all about the money.
dandannieldanok Posted 5 December 2006 Posted 5 December 2006 I agree with your anger at the Man Utd-Villa game being shown. I would have liked to have seen Brum-Newcastle, that should be a good game.
RowlattsFox Posted 5 December 2006 Posted 5 December 2006 whats they sky match going to be, theres usually one isn't there. cardiff v spurs should be on tv, maybe even forest ( assuming they win the replay) v charlton because i think there will be a shock there.

Joe. Posted 5 December 2006 Posted 5 December 2006 They're showing Norwich vs Tamworth?! Wtf? I would like to see the Birmingham v Newcastle game televised also...
RowlattsFox Posted 5 December 2006 Posted 5 December 2006 cardiff v spurs is on sky at 4 on the sunday
Leonisco Posted 5 December 2006 Author Posted 5 December 2006 cardiff v spurs is on sky at 4 on the sunday Good, I can still watch it. That one should have been first on the BBC's list.
Wils Posted 5 December 2006 Posted 5 December 2006 I think our tie deserves to be on tv. Come on who wouldnt want to watch Leicester v Fulham in the FA cup. :pinch:

Finnegan Posted 6 December 2006 Posted 6 December 2006 They're showing Norwich vs Tamworth?! Wtf? I would like to see the Birmingham v Newcastle game televised also... Any excuse to get our Earnie on the box, really.

Haven't Man Utd been on tele enough lately?

It's to make sure that the TV company gains maximum exposure by showing the matches that people want to watch. As for the potential giantkillers, they have picked a game. Ok it is not a Premiership club involved, but so what? It's possibly the biggest gulf in footballing terms the draw has thrown up.

I'm guessing that from the replies on this thread, Man Utd v Villa is NOT a game that many people other than supporters of those two clubs will want to watch.

I think you'll find it's more accurate to say that it's not a game many posters on this thread will want to watch. I would hazard a guess that the many thousands of plastics who claim to support Manure will outnumber the entire membership of this forum.I personally am glad our game isn't on the telly. For one, I don't want everyone seeing us humiliated by a poor side, and secondly, the match will take place at 3pm on a Saturday, which is the proper time for a footy match, in my opinion.

Lisa, can you honestly tell me that you're not in the slightest bit annoyed that the BBC have chosen to screen Man Utd v Villa in favour of many other "traditional" FA Cup ties (i.e. a larger club going to a smaller club?) That they'd rather cater for, as you put it, "the many thousands of plastics who claim to support Manure" rather than real football supporters who want to see a proper Cup game? I'd rather watch a bunch of big Premiership superstars (e.g. Tottenham) going to an old, atmospheric ground (e.g. Ninian Park) and being brought to Earth with a bump by a supposedly smaller club (e.g. Cardiff) - cos that is what the FA Cup is all about and that is why it is known as one of the greatest football competitions in the world.

Seeing as I have no choice in the matter, what I think matters diddly-squat. As for the BBC, they'll be thinking of the money they'll get for televising the game across the globe to a load of plastics in AIG shirts who haven't a clue where Manchester is, but hey, they have a great soccer team. And if the money the BBC recieves for this privilege means that my TV licence fee isn't increased too much, it's a win-win.By the way, I'd rather watch City win at Ninian Park on January 30th. Atmospheric? I take it you've never been.
gatesheadfox Posted 11 December 2006 Posted 11 December 2006 villa vs man utd was the obvious choice, both teams have large fanbase and it will be like any top flight game between two well supported teams. its got the interest of any premiership fan not attending the game as its man utd anyway. what the reason for picking us vs spurs last season was i don't know, we didn't sell out and its hardly a top draw tie....gary perhaps?
