true, forgot to check that

*goes downstairs to change fuse*

Try plugging into different socket, if it still isn't working check the fuse in the plug.

Is the cable properly plugged in?

(at the back/side of laptop and into/out of adapter if appropriate)

This problem has happened to me over the years too.

I've put it down to the fact that the laptop is worn out and in need of replacement (or a new battery). Recently, while I was away, my dad's laptop had the same problem - my brother bought a new battery but after a couple of weeks the same problem reappeared.

Sorry to say, but you may have to bite the bullet and accept that your laptop's knackered. These computer manufacturers don't build things to last ;)

Everything seems to be plugged in ok, the laptop is only around 12months old but gets used everyday for uni etc.

The AC adaptor is slightly frayed at the end where some of the outer casing of the cable has worn away? Seems obvious but could it be that?

Are you saying that the notebook doesn't switch on at all or that the battery is not charging?

What make / model of notebook is it?

What rating is the power brick (output voltage and ampage)? - Make and model of the power brick might be useful too

so it turns on ... is the battery definetly out of charge, therefore running off the power supply, if u can get your hands on a multimeter and get the psu voltages checked, might just be the battery which you can get a cheap affordable replacement from ebay

i always try to get people to stay away from laptops for this very reason, well that and the psu port problems

Its not out of battety quite yet, but its running on the last of it. My Dads replaced his AC adaptor and know his works so it could be that also.

I needed it to last me 18months for uni etc, its lasted me 12months so far, i would have got a desktop but we already have one at home and we dont have the space for another. When i move out of home, then i will buy a desktop. Hopefully not long after i finish uni.

It will turn on, its just that its not charging.

Its a HP zv6000

Ah, that would have been useful info which of course points to the battery...

Or the charging board / circuit

I trust you have removed and refitted the battery?
