lesta fox Posted 8 December 2006 Posted 8 December 2006 how can Sport England fund such a arrogant little twat when he is Scottish ??? What are your views ? Mine are despite how arrogant he is, if he was English then Sport England can fund him, but why are Sport England wasting their time on a Scottishman ?
lildave3 Posted 8 December 2006 Posted 8 December 2006 Because in Tennis, we are Britain. And he is the greatest young prospect we've ever had.

davieG Posted 8 December 2006 Posted 8 December 2006 Why are they sponsoring professionals anyway? Any money they have spare should be going to support those sports men and women that have prospect but no chance of earning it, and should be used to provide the best coaching around.

Right you are davieG. Professionals have enough money anyway and have already made it - they are earning for performing in that sport. People who haven't been spotted but have huge potential stand to lose out due to lack of funding and coaching. I think the priorities are wrong somewhere.

The reason we are no longer one of the best sporting countries is because we do not promote enough grass roots stuff. Australia do, that is why they beat us at everything.

Bit like this government with its priorties on the Nations health. By all means stop people getting fat and encourage kids to do more activities but don't nanny people about what they should or shouldn't do. It won't help the really talented who lose out because of lack of funding.

It won't help the really talented who lose out because of lack of funding. I remember you bringing something like this up a few days ago: Trouble is you can't see this government or indeed the Tories if they get back in power investing in Sport when we have 2012 games to pay for. Also some will say the NHS, Transport, education and the environment are more important than the sporting futures of our young talent. Then again if the government is prepared to invest in fat people taking up dancing then why not invest in people who actually want to do sport and be good at it. I see what you're saying. But the sort of schemes the government comes up with really do piss me off. I mean take the dancing thing for fat people for example. Surely the money, as you say, would be better spent improving sports facilities or building new, advanced ones for the people who want to improve/excel/stay in shape would make more sense, and then advertise these new facilities to fat people?? Alienating the sporty people isn't going to improve our countries sporting standards, neither is slimming down the fat people. Sure, we may have a slimmer nation on average, but it won't make our sports teams any better.
